Comments (123)For some reason I haven't been able to log into Garden Web until today, but I want to add my thanks to all who made this swap so much fun -- it was a blast! I brought home aboiut a 1/3 of what I took, but that was fine by me. I got a good look around at everything before we got started, and when I'd gotten the things I was interested in -- I stopped! Learing some discipline in my old age, I guess. A couple of people mentioned the were interested in the Spring Hill Nursery sale in Tipp City. Comments (17)I mix between three . . Broccoli Salad I used craisins(dried cranberries), broc florets, crumbled crispy bacon, sunflwr seeds(last time I used glazed cruchy almonds with great success), granny smith apples(peeled & cubed, tossed in vinegar to prevent browning), and dressing (vinegar, mayo, sugar). Add the bacon and seeds just before serving. I am always asked for the recipe. The other "standard" is my Cowboy Caviar. Basically, an uncooked salsa (tomato, cilantro, onion, garlic, lime, vinegar) then add 1 can each sweet corn, and black beans (both drained). Adjusting the acid (I love zing), and if I know people can take the heat, I used increase that, too! Serve with Tortilla "scoops". And a third . .Fruit salsa. What every fruit and berries and looking good. Usually Strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, granny smiths, 3 tblspn fruit preserves. Slice tortillas with pizza cutter, spray with cooking spray *butter flvr is best* and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, then toast in 350 oven for about 8-10 minutes (till lightly brn)....See More'Fancy' Pot Luck - Can You Suggest A Dish?
Comments (29)Posting a follow-up on the Pesto Cheese Torta. Was able to get lots of fresh basil from Trader Joe's, so I gave this a try. It presented so well and I received many compliments and requests for the recipe. I served it on a large square rimmed platter w/ a pedestal base with TJ's plain & whole wheat pita crackers surrounding it. Unmolded the torta itself on a small clear glass plate. I placed decorative green leaves under it and set it in the center of the platter. People loved it! I found I needed a larger container (32 oz.) than olychick noted to fit in all the cheese & layers. Otherwise, the recipe & instructions worked perfectly. Note that this is a VERY rich spread. If you're making it for a smaller gathering and don't want a lot leftover, I'd suggest making half a batch....See MoreSalad or veggie for pot luck
Comments (11)You can make as little or as much as you want of this casserole just by using fewer boxes of spinach and less mushrooms. It is always a great hit when I bring it to pot lucks. It can also be made a couple of days ahead and then baked when you need it. Nita's Spinach Casserole This will feed a crowd or at least the ones I have taken it to. There won't be any leftovers. 10 boxes of frozen chopped spinach, thawed and the water squeezed out of it. 3 sticks of butter or margarine fresh mushrooms, sliced and cut in thirds I use probably 1- 1.5 pounds (or as many as you want to use) I take half the butter and melt it in a large frying pan. Then take half the spinach and half the mushrooms and add to the pan. Sprinkle some salt and pepper in and then stir it around to mix thoroughly until heated through. Butter a 9 x 13 pan and then layer about 1/3 of the mixture. Now sprinkle over all with canned Parmesan cheese (don't skimp). Continue with the layers until gone and end with cheese. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about half an hour...See More- 3 years ago
