I just hadda start another thread! Jamilla called me today and asked if we needed any help. Isn't she sweet!? She's taking the night before off of work so she will be wide awake for us. I hope to have recovered from my trip somewhat by then! If I'm not too tired I'll be making some kind of pasta dish. Murray won't want me to come of I don't!

See you all soon!

    Kelly -

    No problem, family first.

Last year the fall swap was in September. I'm not sure if it'll be the same time this year, but it'll get posted here eventually.

  • xaroleht

Oh, Kelly, don't even think about it. It is more important to be with your family. Know that you all are in my prayers. The plants can wait, they will just get bigger by fall.

Hosta & Granny you are in my prayers too. I know how it feels when you can't do what you want because it hurts too much.

Ok I know we have a hosta for Granny and Artichokes for Mel. Mouse what was I bringing you? It has been one of those weeks, actually more than a week now...if I promised anyone else please remind me.

Leaving tonight for swap. See you all tomorrow. Can't wait!

Oh and only 2 weeks and one day til schools out for summer.
    Yeah!

    peace.

Hi Gina...it's NOT in bad taste to see if folks will be bringing certain plants they are looking for. It certainly isn't a secret. I think folks are anxious for people to get things they are looking for at a swap. In fact, some folks set up trades via email beforehand that are separate from the group swap - and put those plants in their cars before the actual big swap begins. (I think Hostalavista and Michigan Betty do that with certain hostas since they are both collectors) I will be bringing some pots of hardy crainsbill geraniums to the swap. Time (spring) will tell me which ones...later on. In fact, I am hoping someone has Achillea Taygeta. I would LOVE a division of that plant. Sounds like there will be quite a few folks bringing their left over winter sown plants for swapping!! Fun! Think sunshine!.......Beverly

Hi Everybody!! I am on my Sister-In Laws computer right now and I don't know if anyone will even get to read this now.I forgot you can get on any computer and do this.((DUH!!)) Any way,I don't want to stay on this too long,((Yeah Right))It's killing me not having my own computer. But I just wanted to say Thanks For A Great Swap.It was especially sweet for me because my daughter Diana and her new Husband of less then a year and who's last name I still can't pronounce correctly got to come with me and they loved it.Diana can't wait to come to the next one,So I'm thinking we'll be coming to the fall swap as well.It was great seeing everyone and sharing all the plants and eating all the wonderful food.I wish I could have stayed longer,But my elbow was giving me a fit.I had surgery on it a couple weeks earlier and the cast was making me sweat and itch. But all in all it was alot of fun. Michelle,My daughter Diana got the wraped package,It was a large ceramic Owl.Very cool!! I probably won't get back on again. So Thanks for a great time as usual Beverly and Mimi!!! You two are Awesome!!!!!!!!!! I'm hoping to see you all again in the fall!! Granny57

Hi folks... I had a blast today at the swap. It was great fun to see so many long time friends and make some new gardening friends too. We had over 100 people and over 2000 plants for sharing. Awesome! At our first swap in 2001 there were 28 people... it's was so fun to see some of those same people at the swap today. Thanks to everyone for coming with such a kind and sharing heart - that's what it is all about. Everyone seemed to go home with lots of new plants. :-) Murray and I came home with some tomatoes, sedums, lillies, coneflowers and many more. Thanks so much. Of course, thanks to folks for bringing a wonderful array of tastey potluck food! I say this every year... gardeners sure can cook and bake. Thanks to folks that donated door prizes. We always get such a neat array of goodies to choose from One last thanks to everyone who came with a kind generosity of spirit. Good gardening to you all! Beverly

Hi folks! Granny!!!!! Of course you count!!!!! I'll take pictures of the Mail Pouch "barn" and other stuff so Lee can show you on his computer. Beverly hasn't even seen them yet! I broke my little finger and am waiting to see the hand specialist to be sure I didn't damage any tendons or ligaments. I hope not. This nine fingered typing is for the birds! I keep trying to use the splinted finger and typing really weird stuff! I also pulled the muscles of my chest badly enough that they thought that I might have a broken rib. Sheesh! I'm still going to find a way to pot up those last few plants! There is NO WAY I'll let if spoil my once in a lifetime trip with the boys. We're going snorkeling, para sailing, catamaran sailing, swimming with the dolphins and even some time for just laying on the beach! No heavy lifting for me until after the cruise! I'm overwhelmed with all the stuff I need to do in the next two weeks so I'd better go make another list and start checking things off! Barbi, was that you who wanted the baby arborvitae? I'll save them for you. I did dig up the campion that seeded itself in my stone path before I hurt myself. (*again*) They are a nice biennial. Mine are white but Beverly has some rose ones so who knows what color the seeds the bees made! I have Solomon's seal that needs dividing and some salvia that seeded into my stone path too. The candy tuft jumped the path but it might have to wait 'til fall. I can't wait to see Betty and Ron all the way from Michigan. I keep killing my forget-me-nots! Wonder what I'm doing to them? I hope everyone is doing well and my penchant for injuring myself is not "catching"! ~~Mimi

I knew everyone would send thoughts and prayers to Kelly and her brother.
What a great group of people.
xaroleht, thanks for thinking of Granny and I, but I know alot of people are feeling the arthur this week.
I just have bouts of time with it. Sometimes by looking at me you can't even tell theres anything wrong.
I was wanting to get outside to get a few more plants but at this time too rainy. My husband (Sam) just came in and said we have gotten over 3" of rain this week. I said everything will be rotting in the ground, like our potatoes. I hope that doesn't happen.
I still don't know what I'm bringing to eat tomorrow.
Xaro, you do such a good job of getting ready for the swap, getting kids ready, plants and traveling not to mention your plants.
Mimi, too, with her cruise, children and plants, where is all that energy coming from.
And all the people driving from afar!
Oh I guess when your gardeners you can make anything work!!
OOHHH what we do for a new plant. Haha

I believe that we have an exceptionally great group of gardeners here. You're soooo right Linda! There are lots of caring people here.

Linda, the secret of my energy comes from CHOCOLATE!!!!! (much tastier than Popeye's spinach!) I'll be needing loads of that lovely confection to plow through the mountain of laundry that I have here today!

That reminds me...Michelle, I seem to remember you promised to bring me lots and lots of chocolate tomorrow. (tee! hee!)

Just remember woman gardeners... We are women. That means we can do ANYTHING for nine months!

    CU Soon!

    are you still there?
i'm online today due to rain, i just sent bev an email to her email address, but you'll do in a pinch.
i'm getting ready to come to the swap, but am stumped on what to bring to eat. i'm driving down from akron area, any suggestions?

also, i have a single jack in the pulpit that managed to grow in a pot. can you use it for a door prize?

    Hi Bill!

Glad to hear that you're coming! Your Jack would be a wonderful door prize! As far as food goes, what about some kind of salad you can pack in a cooler? You could also bring bread or desert stuff that won't need refrigeration. If I was you I'd be going to the local grocery and raiding their bakery so I didn't have to cook. I'd better go to the store now. No bread or milk after vacation and Murray won't let me go if I don't bring pasta!

    See you real soon!

I hope everyone wants some heirloom tomatoes. I just finished up potting up my last ones today. they're all pretty small because they were wintersown late, but I know they'll quickly catch up to all the tomato plants that were started early. anyway, I have 72 4 packs of tomatoes, several singles and lots of other plants to bring.

I think I'm going to make pumpkin muffins in a bit to bring for the potluck. those are sounding good right now. :)

Yeah, Barbi. I'm happy to hear you say you're bringing tomatoes! We got some great ones last year at the swap and decided this year to try to do the same. (and, I promised my dad I'd get him one or two for his garden as well! He got some from the swap last year and really loved them.) I was getting nervous that we might actually not find any!
    See everyone tomorrow! Can't wait!

Hi folks....I've been getting lots of emails and some phone calls from people interested in coming to the swap. I think we will have quite a few newbies! Should be fun.

I got a call from Betty and Ron...they are in from Michigan! I always like it when out of towners get here safe and sound.

Seems like folks are bringing lots of food goodies too.

Hostalavista - I have your munstead lavender. Granny - I have your starts of lavendar Grosso.

What could be better - plants for trading, potluck food, gardeners, and fun!!!

    Steph,
Sorry about that.I meant to say Golden Prayers instead of Golden Hands.
    Hostalavesta,

Hostalavista, I have Oenothera glazioviana Tina James. It's a biennial that pops open at dusk, if you want it just let me know and I'll set one aside for you.

Mom is also bringing a load of tomatoes, so there shouldn't be any problem finding them at the swap! See you all tomorrow!

Mimi I think... that you were going to dig up some toad lilies for me???
Xaroleht - I think It was jerusulom artichokes? I know you are getting hens and chicks.

Kelly, send me your addy and I'll mail you your plants. They are all ones that ship well. Nothing needed in return. Family first. My good thoughts and prayers with you and yours. I'll light some inscense for you and your family as well.

Gads I think I am going nuts final count this year is 107 plants and various pots/pans/glassware/stuff for creative gardeners. Also I have two large hydroponic trays I am bringing - they are black and may need new spouts but they still hold water and do great. Hope they find a good home.

    LESS THEN 24 HOURS!!! AHHHHHHHH!!

People count - me, mum and my coworker Kim could not kidnapp my nephew as the day would be too long for a 3year old and his daddy is taking him to cosi. Plant swaps do not beat out cosi with daddy. Maybe next year. LOL

Granny - look into Bionic gloves I got some for mum and she swears by them. The Arthritic foundation also endorses them for gardeners who need help keeping the pain away. You can ask mum tommorow to see if you might like them. They run about 40.00$ but last a long time.

gots to get back to work.:(

I haven't been able to post lately, but I'm still planning to come tomorrow. I'm not done deciding exactly what I'll be bringing--some plants and some food, that much is sure. I do have some asters and some sedum in pots, and the mystery tomatoes I mentioned earlier.

kin2mice: Of course you can have some of the mystery tomatoes. Some of them I'm pretty sure are Amish Paste. Others, who knows. And if you still have peppers and/or eggplants, I'd probably be interested in some of those. If they're already spoken for, no problem. I seem to have already accumulated a lot of things to plant this year.

    Can't wait!

    Hey Mouse,
Thanks for the heads up on the Bionic Gloves.
But I'd FREAK!!!if I had to pay 40.00 bucks for a pair of gloves no matter how good they were.I lose more gloves then anyone I know.I'm constantly trying to find a mate. Most times I have 2 different gloves on.But Thank You.That was very sweet of you to take time to fill me in.
Maybe I'll hint around for them come time for a Birthday or something.:)
    Getting ready to pack up!!!

Hey Jeanne, I'll take that Tina James, thanks, I'll be looking for you.
Granny your welcome to the Hostas, I thought the Elfin, Pandora and Prayers sounded good to me.
Mouse, tell your Mom to bring the gloves, I'd like to at least look at them.
I might bring Tuna Noodle, I know that's not a spectacular food but it will be warm and we may need warm.
Darn, my Mom won't get to come she has a bad cold and a bum knee, so we decided her health is more important so I'm still bring her seeds and plants a total of 110!!
She gave me a list to look for her some plants and seeds.
I remember Castor Beans were one of the seeds but darn if I can remember the rest.
Goody, lots of tomatoes, I know Mom needs these too!
See you all tomorrow, I can't wait.
I even have my plants in the van, but have to load up Mom's, Daughters and friends. Yee Hah

The van is loaded with all the plant swap goodies ( paper products, table cloth, table etc and. . . PLANTS) The crockpot is cooking beanies and beef weinies. I just need to put the coffee in the van in the morning and we are ready to roll.

Mimi got a new wagon! Me too - it's actually for my grandson when he gets a bit older.

Can't wait to see all of you again. Fine tradition!

Another success thanks to our charming hostesses. I was a little sore from the Race for the Cure, but I managed to give away 30 plants, a book on gardening, gingko saplings and plenty of seed packs.

I took home NOTHING! I couldn't be happier!

Great to see you all. I had the tortellini/broccoli/bacon salad with the sweet dressing. For the recipe (it was totally gone, so I assumed it was well liked) go to:

allrecipes.com and type in "broccoli and tortellini salad."

I would love to know more about that bean dip with the chips!

Working now on spring and summer sowing and tending to my winter sown babies that will go to the fall swap.

Many thanks to all the people that helped make the swap successful. It's gotten so big that Beverly and I could not do it with out all of the gracious folks who pitch in and get things done. I can't begin to name all of you. Let's face it, gardener's are pretty cool people!

Thanks too to all you folks who contributed door prizes. That always makes for a special part of our swap. Everyone's food was delicious! I must have gained five pounds today!

My personal thanks to all of you who were so kind to give hostess gifts. I'm touched at your thoughtfulness.

It was great to see all of our old friends again and to meet some new ones.

I'll post what pics Lee took when I get a chance. He's out in the veggie garden, as I type, planting his tomatoes and inventing a new way to support them.

I'm heard lots of great feedback today. It seemed to me that everyone was gracious and polite. I hope you all had the same experience.

Well, I'd better go write down the names of the cool plants I got so that I can enter them in my data base and print labels so I'll be ready to plant on Monday!

Thanks again to everyone for another great swap!

Hi folks....wow - what a wonderful day!! And - we dodged the rain that looked like it might come our way. YAY!!

I want to thank all you folks for coming today and making this a very special day. So many things to mention. It was wonderful to see so many long time swap friends. What a pleasure to have these wonderful friendships that have formed over the years. It's been very special watching family's grow and change over the last 6-7 years. New babies, spouses, children growing up, friends and more. And, so many new folks this year. That was great too. Theresa's terrific article in Columbus monthly brought many new swappers.

I am very excited to have new 'goodies' for my gardens. I am always glad to welcome new plants and try out something different.

As always the food was so tasty!! I absolutely can attest to the fact that gardener's are great cooks too. I am glad we tracked down who made that fudgey dessert thing. Michelle is on the case to get the recipe and post it. Bakemom, I love your new salad. (however, the apple salad you make is still my fav.)

Thanks to all the folks that brought door prizes. What a treat for so many people to get a prize. It's fun for the kids to pick the names out of the bag.

It was suggested that next year we get a megaphone or kareoke machine for communicating with everyone. Hey...that's a great idea! I'll look into ..Ebay, maybe.

Mimi and I want to thank all you folks that were so helpful - setting up, getting things out, cleaning up - so many things. & so many folks helping. We appreciate it so much.

Now for the ta-da moment....the count!!!! We had some 160 people at the swap. The most ever. The plant count, according to the sign in book, was 2688 plants. WOWSER!! I think everyone must have gone home with lots of new goodies for their gardens.

We appreciate you all - your wonderful generosity of spirit and sharing. Such a nice day.

Thanks again to all for helping us have a special day of sharing plants, food, and friendship.

    Good gardening to you all.........Beverly

Thanks again everyone for a fabulous swap! Chris, Izzy & I had such a good time. We brought home some nice new treasures for our garden, including some hollyhock, hosta, a daylily, forget me nots and snow drop anemone. I love looking outside and seeing past swap plants thriving in the garden. I did get the hollyhocks and daylily planted yesterday and hope to get more done today.

I'm still recovering from all of the dessert I ate. Who made that dish with the cheese cake iced with chocolate and nuts? It was hard to get out of the pan but sooooo worth the effort! ;)

Deanna made the fudgy dessert with the chocolate and nuts. I told her I would give her a couple of days to post the recipe and email her if she didn't get around to it. She called it "bun dessert" like the bun candybars.
We had a lot of fun. I think I took more time this year just to talk to people than focus on plants. I hadn't even really looked at what was there before the swap. Still came home with some nice goodies. Brought home less plants than we took which is ok with me. I think Noah had 1/3 of what we brought home to plant in his section.
Thanks to Bev and Mimi for all their hard work. Can't wait to see everyone again in the fall. Is anyone set to plan that one?

    Hi Beverly,Mimi,
Just now am able to get on line.
The swap is a great success because of all the wonderful people who go all out to make it the high point of our day,And much of that effort is because of the two of you Beverly and Mimi.I know you have help and it makes it nice for all involved. But lets face it.You make it work.Thank You for YOU!!I look forward to seeing your smiling faces and the funny stories you have to tell. You always have a nice way of welcoming everyone and making them all feel right at home,Like we've always belonged.
I truly enjoy all the Smiles and the Hugs and look forward to them as much as the Goodies and the Full Belly I go home with.It truly is a treat for me.
    So with that being said;
Thank You Both!!! From my Heart and the Heart of my Flowering Beds.

    Bev and Mimi,
Thanks so much for all the work you do in getting the swap
    going each year.

i was so glad i came again this year, since my plants i got
are all a treat to have. I haven't done a thing with them yet, but Thursday is my day off and thats what i'm planning to work on.

please get on Deanna's case about that bun bar dessert-- those were nummy nummy good. I'm sure they are horrifyingly unhealthy for us-- best eating standing near the kitchen sink by the light of the refrigerator to avoid calories.

    again thanks

    Hi all you Good Gardeners!
I was so glad to see everyone! Talked to a couple of different people this time, I don't even know who they were. It's always nice to meet new people.
And of course all the good ole' friends. Love seeing all of you, it's like having a reunion with new relatives joining us each year.
I love all the plants I got, especially the trades that is so much fun. The food is great, love the variety.
I'll be looking for that dessert recipe, Xaro! Thanks for posting it. I loved the HoHo Cake, I think that's what you call it, went back for a small second.
Most of my Tuna Noodle was ate, it was a Ho Hum food but it was Hot, something we needed that day! Dang Wind.
Only have a few things put in the ground, potted up my Ginko trees, wanna give them a boost before putting them in the ground. Planted my sedums (special trade), Cathy don't have her Daylilys in the ground yet. Maybe today I will get a few more things in.
Other special trades were Impatiens, 2 people with Evening Primrose, even lost one of the trades but was spotted by Jeanne, Thank You twice!, got lavender, lots of other special trades, thank you all.
Got a Praying Hands Hosta in special trade, it's so unusual. My hostas that I've had for years are finally recouperating (spell?) after we lost our Popular trees about 3 or 4 years ago. Abiqua Drinking Gourd has the deepest cups I've ever seen.

Thanks Diane - yes, I have lost alot of weight. I am doing it by counting calories, writing down everything I eat, planning ahead, and daily meditation. Also, these websites have been very helpful: Sparkpeople and 3Fatchicks (great forums, tools and information)

Glad folks have had a good time. Me too!

My apologies to all who took any of the plants home I brought to the swap untagged.I was unable to do so this year. But I hope you all enjoy them,If you are uncertain what you have,Post here and I will try to figure out what it is you have.I brought mostly Annuals and some Hostas and a few perennials.
Mouse,How does your friend like the Hostas you took to her?
Betty,It is always a treat to see you.You always look so pretty. It's too bad we all didn't have more time to share with each other,But there's always the fall swap.

Hi, all! I emailed Deanna again this morning. Haven't heard back from her yet but will keep trying. For those who want it here is the recipe for the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip...
3/4 cup powdered sugar, 8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 3/4 cup small chocolate chips. Cream the sugars and cream cheese together. Add vanilla and mix. Fold in the chocolate chips. I serve with vanilla wafers or graham cracker sticks. For fun I get Scooby snacks. Have a great Memorial Day. Peace.

    Michelle,
Thanks for posting your recipe for theChocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip.It sounds DELISH!!!I didn't get to sample any because we got there late,But I did get to sample lots of other good stuff.
As to you trying numerous times to get the recipe from Deanna,If I were you I'd forget about it.Sounds like she doesn't want to give it up.Maybe it's her specialty and doesn't want to share it.No recipe is worth begging for.LOL
    Not meant to offend anyone.
Hope you got all your plants in and the kids are well.
I will look forward to seeing you at the fall swap.

OK so i went online and googled bun bar recipes
my, my, my but there are a lot of them-- and no wonder they were so good-- they are pure sugar, fat and chocolate:

1.spray with pam and line a 9x13 pan with wax paper(you might want to give the wax paper a shot of pam too)

    2. 12 oz chocolate chips
    12 oz butterscotch chips
    18 oz peanutbutter

    1 cup butter
    2/3rd cup milk
3.2 oz package vanilla pudding mix (not instant)
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    (2 tsp maple flavoring-optional)
    2 lbs powdered suagr

12 oz - 1 lb peanuts-- whatever type you like

    3. melt 1/2 of the chocolate and butterscotch chips with 1/2 of the peanut butter (lets just say melt 1 cup of each)
mix well. spread this into the prepared 9x13 pan. place in freezer to chill.

    4. melt butter, stir in milk and vanilla pudding mix. mix well. bring to a boil. boil 1 minute. stir in flavorings.
stir in powdered sugar. mix well. spread this over the chocolate layer. Chill

    5. melt the rest of the chocolate and butterscotch chips and peanut butter. stir in the peanuts. spread as the top layer. chill. cut into small bites (i'm thinkin' something more than 12 or 18 bars-- perhaps as many as 48 or 60 to one pan)

    5. refrigerate or freeze to store
