Paint color for windowless guest room
Comments (21)We had a windowless basement "guest room" in a precious home. This was not the only guest room, but we didn't have a need for it to be any other type of room, so made it an extra bedroom. When we had the house appraised, or listed for sale, we were not allowed to call it a bedroom. Bedrooms in TN have to have a window AND a closet to be considered a bedroom. No code that you cannot use a windowless room as a bedroom. We debated on putting in a second door in the room that would go into our daughters bedroom behind the back wall. Her bedroom was above ground level with 2 large windows. Both bedrooms opened up to 2 expansive living areas (one for pool/billiards and the other lounging/dining) with multiple windows. Then we figured that if there was a fire, the wall could be easy broken through (with a few kicks) if there was a fire. Also, just outside the guest bedroom door, was a bathroom door. That bathroom went through to the daughters bedroom. We felt pretty safe if anyone were to stay in the room. Here is the room which we had painted a light blue from BM. Our daughters room was yellow with the same blue ceiling. Very pretty and tranquil....See MorePaint color for powder room without windows?
Comments (7)I posted a similar question and some people recommend not doing a light color in a small windowless bathroom. However, I did just that - I used a beautiful white that has a tinge of warm pink in it, and it looks fabulous with my wood floor, calacutta tile around shower, and white fixtures. It's Benjamin Moore Atrium White. It's a clear but luminous white...the creamy whites looked terrible in there. Be sure to test whatever you're interested in because your lighting, tile, floors, etc. will effect how it looks. I think I looked into or tried every white BM had, LOL. Good luck!...See MorePaint Suggestion for Windowless powder room
Comments (45)Here's what I did with mine. The color didn't photo well here but it's a very pale yellow. Hand painting is cooler than wallpaper because you can do things like this (I couldn't continue the design because it was headed to a place where the cabinet was mere inches from the wall and I couldn't get in there). And if you're ever tired of it, you can paint it back out in minutes. Anyway, I dunno how good it looks in pictures, but everyone who sees the room in person gasps in surprise and then says nice things about it, and it wasn't that hard to learn how to do it -- you can do something like this if you want, or any number of faux treatments... like I really like the shiny and dull stripes in the same color paint if you're into a more modern look, and the beadboard if you're into a warmer look. :) Did you look at the bathrooms thread in the Gallery?...See MoreDark paint in small windowless powder room?
Comments (24)Glad to hear you sound excited about the Caponata. 'Tis true that you can never tell what a paint color really looks like until it is actually up on the wall in the room to be painted and interacting with everything in there, including and especially the lighting. I also think painting swatches on a wall, even in the room to be painted, is useless. It's so deceived by the existing wall color surrounding it. I have found that, painting the swatch right up to any trim, coming from behind a fixture, like a sink, etc., really helps to get a good idea as to what the color will look like. Fortunately for you, the light in your powder room doesn't really change throughout the day, since you don't have a window, so you won't get any surprises, like in the morning it's great color, but in the afternoon, it goes blah, or whatever. Let us know what you decide and post pics when and if you're able!...See Morestiley
