Bathrooms Design Dilemma Buying and Selling Homes

Bathroom counter

Hello,
We just got our master bathroom renovated in preparation to sell the house. The contractor has increased the height of the vanity. The total height from floor to top of the counter is
38 1/2 inches which i feel is very high for me ( I am a short person). When we addressed the issue, he says its not too high and it should be okay.
I would love to get some expert advice, opinions, inputs and suggestions.

It's your house get it the height that is comfortable for you. Measure a counter you're comfortable at and use that as a guideline.

The vanity in the master bath in this house is 38". About 7' wide and a very elongated Kohler enameled center sink. I'm 5'2" and it took a little getting used to, but now I rather like it. I have extra storage in that vanity that I wouldn't otherwise have had - that doesn't hurt a bit ;)

Bath vanities are often higher now. Although this master (1955 house) was remodeled something like 25 years ago!

I stand for makeup and hair, and certainly do no bending to put an elbow down to steady a hand for something like eye makeup application.

You said you'd remodeled for resale. I don't think your higher bath vanity will be off putting to potential buyers if its clean, neat, rest of the house is in order.

It would not be ideal for a family bath serving children.

Personally I don't like to mix metals that much if there is big contrast-- using a copper sink in a small room where you have a nickle shower enclosure would seem to highlight the differences in color of metals no matter what tile you are using... If you want a metal sink would you consider a hammered stainless or pewter metal sink?

I do like the countertop choice. But I am also a fan of a less busy quartz countertop like this one. Still has the subtle veins in it, but it's not too busy for a bathroom. Plus I love the idea of a white vanity popping against the navy color the room. The sample in your photo could take away from the "pop" factor in my opinion. But I do think your sample is a beautiful piece of stone for sure. Good luck with your renovation!

I had several bathrooms renovated a few years ago. The vanities are 36” from floor to the top of the counter. I am 5’6” and my husband is 6’2”. We both are comfortable with the height of our vanities.
