Finally bought a rug...would love opinions on a paint color
Comments (11)Here's a link to my photobucket album with photos of the kitchen/dining area. I had taken them around Valentine's Day when I had the table set for a VD dinner I was having. The bi-fold doors on the pantry are gone now, thank goodness. They've been replaced with the doors I had shown in my first post. That's really the only change that's been made in the room so far. I do have plans to change up a few other things...I'm on the lookout for a new desk for my computer. The computer tower that's sitting on the floor is an old one I was using while my current one was being repaired. Got it back finally, so the tower isn't there anymore. I'm debating putting a cabinet on the wall over the new desk after I get one. I'm planning to replace the door at the end of the dining area with a French door. The pie safe next to the china cabinet will be moved since this area is so small and crowded. I'm probably going to take the leaf out of my table which will free up some space in this area. The brown wood doors will be replaced with doors matching the pantry doors. The house is an older one with lots of quirks that I have to try to work around. Hopefully these photos will give you an idea of what I have to work with. Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchen photos...See MoreI would love your opinions on pergola color!
Comments (22)For abbreviation, anything is fine...B-mom is much easier to type. Now that all of you are aware of, and can spell, the old Welsh name, my work here is done! Our pergola was designed in collaboration with a company in northwestern Virginia, who made all the parts and delivered them by truck. (I've given a link...again, I have no interest in the company.) My contractor erected the columns, which are a specially formulated concrete with a timber core that extends down into footings in the ground. The deck framing is built in around the footings. The column core also extends up to create a nailing surface for the beams. The company also stained the beams and cross members for us...we painted the columns, and stained the deck. Here are a couple of process photos... I'll make another post for a few photos of the garden as it looked two years ago...when we sold the house. Sigh. I've already come too close to hijacking this thread! Here is a link that might be useful: Our pergola makers...See MoreWhat is your favorite color for end/coffee/night tables?
Comments (13)I'm strongly inclined to wood tones. But I do believe there should be some variety of finishes too..so I have-in different spots of living and family spaces- a glass coffee table, an upholstered ottoman, a rattan stool, a small gilded occasional table with a mirrored top..Every room needs some relief.. I dream of having something lacquered/painted, but I didn't find that piece yet. I thought I did (a wonderful secretaire- I saw it by chance in a consignment shop, and immediately bought it for a song)..but my husband was so much against the idea that I had to drop it. I did read in one of the books on design about the apartment that belonged to well-known designers(maybe Mitchell and Gold? I'm really not sure), and their thing was to paint all their antiques and other furniture in either black or white....See MoreWhat color should I paint these end tables and dining chairs?
Comments (4)Are you going to paint the grandfather clock too? Don't be so quick to create a monotone room. I would darken the coffee table top with a gel stain so it works with the darker end tables and clock. HERE is how one person did it. I might also darken the dining chairs. I'm confused as to how the end tables have the perfect width, but you want them to look larger! Perhaps you are overthinking the design. It looks balanced to me. Live with it for a while....See More- bbruning thanked Celery. Visualization, Rendering images
