Ok, how did I do?? (re: airplane room)
Comments (15)The room is coming along wonderfully! Love the framed calendar page, but my favorite thing is that super-comfy looking over-stuffed, red arm chair! My suggestion would be to move the dresser over more, away from the chair. Then move the chair towards the dresser a bit, making room for an end table next to the chair on the window side. Add a nice reading lamp (or floor lamp) with a 3-way bulb. You might even consider using an old footlocker as an end table. That would give you some great extra storage, as well. Make that area the coziest reading spot ever! Lynn...See MoreLiving Room re-do
Comments (99)I went through the certain size as well as the three cushion search exstensivly a little over two years ago. There was nothing good to personally try out in my local offerings. I took the plunge and ordered two sofas from Elite leather. What attracted me was all the color choices and SIZE and number of cushions. One is a long four cushion and the other a small three cushion sofa. Elite has some lesser brands where parts are made in China. I didn't want that and through correspondence with the USA maker in California I was assured my sofas where made in the USA. When the sofas arrived I (being paranoid of future squashy cushions) noticed a very slightly noticeable dip on one inner cushion corner. Elite sent me two backup cushion inserts. The dip did not get worse and I have not had to use the backups. I'm so glad of this as I was about to be unhappy. After some time and reflection I don't think it was the cushion but was a tic of overlap in the leather cover. These are very comfortable sofas. The back cushion pillows are attached to the seating cushion so it always looks neat. I normally would not recommend after such short ownership but so far so good. http://www.eliteleather.com/products/sofas/transitional/aero/631#photo-1 Site measurements- H:33 D:38. There is no cheap filler leather patched on the sides or anywhere on sofa, it's all nice leather. The underside of cushions is partially cloth so they stay put. There are zippers on back underside of seat cushions for removal and there is a zipper attaching the upper back pillow to the seat. Comments (34)I’m laughing at the thought of my squishy, comfy pillows being called forbidding or them fighting with anyone. I took a couple of more pictures, including the chairs without the pillows and I think you’ll agree that the cushions make them look more inviting, not less. Also rearranged so that people can see that the sofa facing the fireplace, chair at each side will not work in the space. I tried it as the most obvious answer and discarded it. It’s awkward to me, like the sofa is turning it’s back on everyone. Also, due to the placement of the fireplace, the sofa and chairs cannot be centered on the fireplace or the bedroom will be blocked completely. I can’t pull the sofa back much more without blocking the walkway. The fact is, space for the ‘living room” is much smaller than you think. I also pulled the rug away, to demonstrate that the rug and sofa not going together is kind of the least of this room’s problems. I wish I could get a good angle that shows just how off center the couch and chairs are....See MoreLiving room furniture suggestions, dining room rug size
Comments (41)@Alyssa - thanks will look for some pics, but mostly bright, formal, traditional - but it depends on lighting. Regarding colors, I've learned the hard way that you just can't go into a room and say e.g. I want to evaluate yellow tones, blue tones, and green tones. Since I believe lighting dictates which color to use. Thus I can't really say which colors I like. The kitchen and office are lighter yellows which are accentuated by sunlight - which to me is uplifting. Light blues and light greens are out for me. Yellows, beiges, ivory, cream, dark reds, dark greens, and grays (obviously) work, but oranges and peaches are too moody to me. Can you recommend furniture placement in the back 10x15' room (which was an office) using pics below? This room has a closet for outerwear (doors are off now) and a small closet with 4' tall door below the stairs -- for storage, suitcases, etc. The furniture in this room is a brown velour sleeper sofa under the windows, a desk on the far wall, and book shelves on the closest wall. I have not hung the artwork yet. About having an office downstairs, I have heard some friends complain about having an office downstairs, like it trashes the look of a house. So while sanding/refinishing the floors over the last month, I moved the desk/computer/books upstairs to an empty bedroom. Should I leave them there? @Jan - I picked up some high quality hand-knotted rugs & pads - one is an Iranian 8x12' made in the 1950s and never used/owned (image above - it's absolutely unreal!), and the other two are Indian (pics below). Also just finished installing red oak clear poly shoe molding everywhere, and touch up painting with small art brushes. Here's an nice Indian green-cream-beige that is an 8x10 for the DR (don't mind all the dirt on the AC intake vent - it's from sanding the floors, I need to pressure wash these outside): Finally the Indian 9x12' in the living room: (fyi - there's a large 3' polished brass fireplace cover which looks like a flower with 12 pedals - not shown. i also just gave the mantle a second coat of oil-based, so nothing's on it)....See MoreAdriana
