We already have the tile in hand from last year so that’s why that is our choice. We don’t want to have to buy tile all over again? One thing I don’t like is that it’s matte. Now shiny at all? I’d I have to choose that any way for it to be polished or have a shiny waxed look?

A little confused about your post. You do want to change kitchen flooring. Choices are change to travertine or change to what’s in adjacent room - the warm wood. But, you’d really like to go lighter than what’s already in kitchen which means doing the entire first & second floor which then means no flooring change at all? So options are travertine or wood for kitchen? Definitely change kitchen flooring to the wood so it flows from adjacent room & warms the kitchen up from the all white. In kitchen you already have granite counter, can’t see what BS is - maybe subway? Adding tavertine is yet another cool surface. Add the same flooring as in the adjacent room & let the counter & BS be the stars in the kitchen!

What you’re saying is correct. I would love to change all the flooring to lighter but we will not be doing that. I kind of like my dark flooring. The more I look at pictures I see how wonderful the lighter flooring is lol but I’m not doing that. The dark flooring will stay in the living room as is.

I do like the idea of the dark flooring warming up the space.

As far as backsplash I’m still looking no just decided to paint it white dove to match the cabinets because I couldn’t take the various whites, off whites, and grays of the mosaic. So until I find the right one it’ll be white dove for now. I may choose an off white subway or a cream/beige colored glass-I’m not sure.

But I guess I will continue the flooring into the kitchen area….

I didn’t know adding the travertine would be adding cool since it’s cream colored with streaks of brown/tan.

Well. maybe the travertine floor wouldn’t be another cool but it’s definitely another texture & competes with counters & limits BS choices. Your pics show only a glimpse of the warm wood in adjacent room but it looks beautiful with all the white & light finishes & furniture that shows in pics. I think I’d add the wood to kitchen to really highlight the cabs & counter. I don’t think the travertine really does any favors for your cabs & they are a huge element in the overall space. Are you saying that BS is painted? Wow! I would install new darker flooring then work on BS & bring home many samples of larger tiles. The granite has a small pattern so no small tile BS. Match the white in BS & make sure it works with cabs.

I’d bring the dark wood into the kitchen. agree i’d prefer lighter but matching is best and i think it will look lovely! can you straighten out that island while you are at it? it looks like someone knocked it off kilter.

You will lose a lot of light reflectance.

Yes the backsplash is painted but it was very busy before and I didn’t want to look at it so I did a quick paint job.

Finding backsplash has been very difficult to say the least. Here are some samples I found. We def want to keep it light since the floors are dark.

I would love to add recess lighting but it’s just too costly for this house right. Ow. A few thousand. I’m also going to change the sliding panels on the patio. The colors are off and it’s blocking light on the left side of the pic.

I do wonder about the island. Not sure why it is installed that way. It helps to keep the space appear open I think. But no one seems to like it this way. On the other side of the room to the left is the dining area with a wall. A tacky wall-not even a window which makes no sense from my standpoint. So very hard to decorate and less light.

If you are changing the floor, can you square up the island at the same time? The angled island looks off.

Everyone seems to hate the island this way and I never realized it until ppl mention it lol don’t you think it makes the room seem bigger? Lol

I don’t think it looks bigger. Straightening it will make it look much better.

Are islands normally screwed into the floor?

I like the idea of the dark flooring to unify the entire floor and don't have that visual break between the two rooms. I would take the opportunity when changing out floor to straighten the island as well.

That’s for your input. I am worried about losing light for sure.

I have granite on top of there now. How can this island be moved??
