Design Dilemma Basements Windows

help needed with basement window trim

Hi all. We are renovating the basement of our 1960 bungalow after 30 years in the house! It’s been a fun project and we are now starting the trim work. I’m stumped about how to treat the windows. Should these be trimmed or left with just the drywall recess? I’m not sure whether I’m just starry-eyed over the new drywall and paint or if going without trim on the windows is actually something to consider.

Appreciate any help!

If that drywall is finished well I would just leave it as is. You need baseboard so do that and then see if you feel you need trim on windows.

Thank you. We will be putting down baseboard and trim around stairs etc. next week. Nice, tall, squared contemporary trim (sorry old builders mahogany!). I’m thinking of some light-filtering cellular shades in the window frames just for privacy when we want it.

I am having a similar problem now with exterior almond/tan vinyl windows. My home was painted 1/4 way around only and stopped them because the paint looked terrible against the faded vinyl. I have been back to the get new samples of paint to try around the windows, but I still can’t find a color that is compatible. My home was built in 78, and I think the windows are probably 90s. I bought the home in 2015. It is currently a beige color with green trim, very blah. I think I may go white, and the trim color I found matches the vinyl on the windows, called French Beige a Behr Marquee color. Then add shutters in the front, or I may need to change out all windows and then I can paint it whatever color I like.

We are getting ready to replace roof, siding windows. Using hardie board, and want to stick with a factory color for at least the siding (could paint the trim ourselves a different color). I'm leaning towards cobblestone for the board and batten siding, my husband likes contrylane red. Charcoal gray roof or brownish? Bronze windows or off white? Thanks for any feedback!

Beige windows--Need help with interior trim and wall colors

The windows are in, so we are stuck with them. Unfortunately, we didn't know there could be an option for white inside/beige outside. My builder uses Sherwin Williams. I've just gotten home from a trip to their store to look at colors since Relaxed Khaki for a trim seemed way too dark. Now I'm looking at SW White Duck, Muslin, and Natural Choice. They all have high LRVs. They seem to work with the beige windows and with SW Wool Skein on the walls. The next issue I want to avoid is having the trim color too similar to the wall color. Do you think there is enough contrast with these colors? Any choices I should avoid?

Honestly, no to the paint. We had a similar problem because they were casement windows and I hated them because in time, they would not close, the crank became stripped, etc. Paint will not stop water damage. We replaced the casement with double hung, which I would recommend.

Because I am concerned about having drywall in contact with the metal framing of the basement windows, I used PVC for the sill and sides to cover the wall framing. No further trim has been added. Simply a Venetion blind to diffuse the window well.

Thank you. That’s a good thought. We’re in a cold climate, so there is some condensation in the winter.

plantation shutter might be interesting, but spendy if you are on a budget.
