Want to replace baseboards, window & door casings
Comments (8)Honestly, if that were my house, I would leave it as is. It may look more disconnected IRL, but it looks fine to me. What I would focus on is replacing the caulking where needed, adding caulk where needed, fixing any dings or dints and do a really nice paint job. Your nice wainscotting adds a lot of interest in lieu of nice big hefty trim. I would hesitate to tear out and redo it to accomodate taller base. You really don't have room for wider door and window trim in some areas. Once the caulk and paint have cured, I would do a nice strait edge with tape and touch up the wall paint - it appears that the trim paint is running up on the walls....See MoreBaseboards, window & door trim
Comments (3)I like baseboards larger than door and window casings. On door casings, I like your idea of same design/different width casings. Except maintain consistency like all doors in the old part of the house have the same narrower width casing. You don't want to look down a hallway, for example, and see different width casings on some than on others....See MoreBaseboard and trim/casing experts - please need advice on thickness?
Comments (8)I think 1/2" would look more modern. I have been using 3/4" trim with traditional 1/2" baseboards and it is looking a little clunky. But I'm fine with it - looks more craftsman to me. I also put an extruded edge around the window casing to make it look more finished. So the window frame comes out from the wall about 1-1/8" total. (This actually takes away from the "clunkiness".) Definitely make sure the door casings are flush with or thicker than the baseboards, since the baseboards will butt up against the door casings....See MoreAdvice for baseboard trim and doors
Comments (6)I love your warm stained doors and woodwork and I would never paint them. They also look to be in great condition. My doors and trim in my home are done just like yours , stain color and all. It is one of the best features of my home, I think. My front door stained trim is also done just exactly like yours and it looks fine with a large wreath placed on the door. It draws the eye off everything else. The wreath co-ordinates nice with the wood trim. . Once you paint stained wood work there is no going back. Unless you want to rip it all out. Crate and Barrel has some nice wreaths that would look great on your door, in particular their Red Berry Wreath would look nice ....See MoreVirgil Carter Fine Art
