Please advise on new hardwood floor botched finish.
Comments (9)I agree that tearing out is an extreme solution. You may be expecting way too much here, but you have only shown us the 'trouble spots', so it's difficult to say if that's true or not. In any site-finished hardwood floor, you may find tiny bits of debris in the finished floor. These small things can stick out like a sore thumb. The more that time is spent on vacuuming and tacking, the less that debris finds its way into the finish. Add to the fact that you may have rushed the finisher, I am not surprised that you are finding things wrong with the finish. Also, if by "I'll do it again" he meant a complete resand and finish all in one day...well there's your problem; it can't be done successfully. If he just screened and recoated, then it is possible to complete that work in a day....See MoreNew construction screened porch help please...
Comments (1)Kinda sounds like you're getting tired of the whole process. BUilding a house is like having a baby....it's hell during the process, but you love it afterword. I'll take a piece of this....The only problem I know of with painting the treads is usually the wood is still "wet", so the primer doesn't get a good grip especially with people walking on it. Horizontal surfaces take a beating...sun, rain, people. I would let it set and dry out (maybe a couple of weeks with no rain), then prime and then use a porch floor paint. I use all-latex outside and oil based on interior woodwork....See MorePLEASE advise on window coverings for our new home. Thank you!
Comments (13)I'm not a designer... But, I kind of like your roller blinds. Are you thinking about replacing them all because you feel like they aren't good quality (because they've been breaking), or are you just not liking them, in general? If it were me, I'd leave the roller blinds and add drapes, which would be a way to add color. Or, I think you can put up roman blinds (outside mount) over the inside mount roller blinds. I'm not a designer, though, so.... I've had faux wood blinds and they do gather dust and the slats are a bit time consuming to dust. I used to occasionally wash mine over the bathtub. I didn't really like all the strings in them, either (and they aren't exactly the most child or pet-safe choice so far as window coverings). But, most people, around here at least, seem to have them. They seem to be very common. It's just my opinion, but I think they're not the best thing if you want to be able to raise/lower something on a daily basis. It's pretty easy to open up the slats and close them, but raising and lowering is another thing....See MoreNew Construction. Please help, were days from placing windows order.
Comments (43)cpartist The picture of the window you saw up above is just the style of brick pattern that I found. I think it will work well around my dining room windows. 3 windows will not be molded together but separated by narrow brick pattern. It is not reflected on the front elevation. We have not picked out the brick or the stone yet. The brick color in the picture is way busy, and I agree with you that color brick would not work with stone. Speaking of brick, we drove around new subdivisions today to get some ideas of brick and stone combination and let me tell you, I am more confused now than when we started :) Building a new house is fun and exciting, but so many decisions to make........See MoreMary Hughes
