Did Dh and I screw up our brand new picket fence? Please advise.
Comments (11)Thank you so much for your response! I am so happy to know now what to do! Thompson's says we have to wait a week to prime, so we'll go out next weekend and get the paint products you suggested. May I ask one last question? I promise not to be a further bother. Will the cedar oil come out through the sealer, paint and primer, or is that going to be a non issue going forward? Again, thank you for your advice....See MoreDid Dh and I screw up our brand new picket fence? Please advise.
Comments (8)Cedar itself is one of the species sch as teak or first-growth redwood that doesn't actually benefit from any protective finishes. But . . . if you want to maintain that fresh cedar look and preventing weathering to a slivery gray, try WoodRX 'Natural'. This is a non-solvent exterior finish that will give you 7-8 years in NY and maintain the pigment of the 'Natural' color pallet. But it's an absorbing finish, so the Thompson's seal coat will have to wear off. The good news is that Thompsons is really a useless product and will be require re-sealing twice a year in the NY humidity. So not so long a wait until your can brush on two coats of WoodRX, which by the way dried very fast, so careful with the brush strokes. It's avaliable from the manufacturer in Ft Meyers, or the online sites of both Lowes and Home Depot....See MorePlease help us add a little more curb appeal to our new home
Comments (5)Remove the too small shutters since shutters should look like they could cover the windows. They add nothing and actually detract. Paint the garage door the same color as the house so it fades away and is not the first thing you see. Pavers instead of concrete. Better landscaping, including some flowers....See MoreWould like to update our Exterior ...Advise Please.....Thank you
Comments (2)The home is charming. Not sure how successful you will be if you change the front door to wood and then keep a screen/storm door over it. The scrubs in front of the bay windows should be lowered to a height below the window sills. The bushes seem to be taking over that end of the house....See MoreLisa Talarino
