Does anyone recognize these bugs?

I hope I can post this pic - I took it while on a walk today. This is one of about a dozen clusters of these bugs I saw on an ancient English ivy sort of hedge which was holding up a 100 year old rock wall which was leaning. All of the clusters were in bits of full sun, so I am presuming they were trying to get warm/sunshine after our 21 days of total rain deluges. Today was the first time the sun came out.

To me looks like... Red-shouldered bugs aka soapberry bugs aka golden rain tree bugs aka jadera haematoloma.

They look like Charcoal Seed bugs (Melacoryphus lateralis) to me.

So sorry to take up your time. I should have tried a general google search before asking my question. This is indeed, a Swamp Milkweed beetle, Labidomera clivicollis and it doesn't feed on the eggs or cats of the Monarch Butterfly, just plant material of some varieties of milkweed. Mary

@Mark Bischak, its been done already! When we used to live in the northeast there was a neighborhood in our town known for its over the top Christmas lights displays. When one of them put their house on the market it was advertised as $1.5 million in Christmas lights and house included! It certainly served as a warning of what was expected of you if you bought there! @ILoveRed, I looked some more through the higher end vendors at the LA design center website and did not see the chairs or similar. I'll ask a friend who is a designer if she has any vendor suggestions.

Charcoal seed big (based on photos from iNaturalist) seem to consistently have orange striping along the sides of the body and black eyes, while the above bugs last the side striping and have red/orange eyes. Otherwise they look very similar.

Yes I agree with you that they look more more like Red-shouldered Bug because the red eyes.

I just took a picture of the picture with my insect id ap and it cam back as Red-Shouldered bug like Michevous Magpie stated

Yes, I looked at lots of images on Google, and they are definitely "jadera haematolma" or soapberry bugs. They don't have stripes along their bodies, and have red eyes instead of black. Also, they have markings on their shoulders, as opposed to 3 reddish blobs. Thanks for the quick responses, as usual!

Also called box elder bugs. When I was in grad school, my U of MN housemate told me that box elder bugs are her favorite bugs. Don't we all have favorite bugs? :-) They don't cause any significant damage to the garden in my experience. They just show up in herds, their coloring shifts from conspicuous bright red to black with red epaulettes and then they move on. I always think of my former housemate when I see them, so they bring me a smile. Carol

I agree with soapberry bugs. But for that to be the case, were they under a soapberry (Sapindus sp.) or a golden rain tree (Koelreuteria) tree? Those are the only two trees I know of that soapbery bugs would feed on; almost surely not on English Ivy. Apparently they may feed on some species of maple, but I've never seen them do that on our maples in Florida. Here on our campus, we have a big tree of Koelreuteria elegans, and this past week, it looked like the ground was moving under it, there were so many of them. The younger ones are bright red. Your photo looks like a group of only adults.
