Comments (32)lisa- Thank You for throwing it out there. I like to look at different ideas b/c in the end once we decide we'd like to feel confident that we explored our options! I thought the basement part might work but right away my dh pointed out that it makes it really hard to bring large things downstairs with the curve. (We have that now and its very difficult) In the Dining Room, would those buffets have cabinetry above for dish storage, etc? I like it b/c I was thinking tall cabinetry without the counter space but that would be nice : ) I definitely "get" what you're saying about banquettes not being for everyone. We plan to be here 10 years and if that works out maybe much longer. My husband and I do like the banquette idea especially b/c it keeps the area open from kitchen to DR and it's just a different "look" for us. We'd only use the bench side when we have a larger amount of people. That being said we're still open to not doing it if we think it won't work. Also, couldn't a new buyer just take out the built in seat if they don't like it and turn it back to a traditional DR? I'm not asking that sarcastically but it wouldn't seem the worst of things. OR- we could do a separate piece of furniture that's not built in too right? I think someone said Ballard has them. IF anyone sees others let me know. I know they have great fabrics that are kid friendly too : ) I wonder how long they come? THANKS EVERYONE! I so love this : )...See MoreFamily Room Furniture Layout
Comments (1)Which layout do you prefer and why? This is my family room drawn to scale. It is an open floor plan. The dotted lines represent the imaginary boundaries of the room. The arrows are sliding glass doors so I need to keep that area a walkway as it also leads to the guest room and bathroom. My TV unit is long and almost as tall as the ceiling- custom built by my husband. It can be moved but hubby is worried about glare on the tv from the sliders if we place it across from them. We mainly use this room for watching TV but it is rare that our family of 5 is all together at one time now that our kids are all older. Thoughts and suggestions? Comments (18)@Diana Bier Thank you for so many thoughtful notes The house is in NJ and is an existing structure. We are blowing out back to add square footage but cannot widen much (even if we got a variance) so not worth it. Cannot change entry to side of garage.. we do not have that much land. The plans are rough until we choose which general layout we really want to go with.. Plan A The sink in dining room is little nook for wet bar but I would definitely not do that. Don't need a family room and living room but that is generally style with houses here in NJ.. a family room off the kitchen area.. We could definitely do sliders for any closet doors.. I actually have no idea what that square is at the end of the hallway but would extend laundry if we chose that general layout to make closet perhaps.. Plan B I agree, my main issue is that door to stairs is tight - so to add entry space would get rid of that "wine room" to push hall closet there and then have the stairs push back maybe 3-4 ft Agreed, worried dining room may be too small.. would be nice to have table for eight And there would be no change in level on either plan (that was from early plan where they were not going to elevate 2nd floor and excavate out basement below but that's all changed)...See MoreFloof! Comments (20)For multiple-item orders that ship at different times, it sure would be nice to have a view into the vendor's system to see "shipped/not yet shipped" per item. It's only software, how hard could it be? (that's a rhetorical question, no answers please!) I love Amazon and they rarely mess anything up, but recently they delivered the wrong book. Once it's marked 'delivered' there's no button I can press to change the status to "Oh no you didn't!". They eventually gave me a refund but my account still shows that book as purchased & delivered, which it never was because they didn't have it.Oh well -- small problem, but irritating....See More- last year
