I am making panels for my MBR right now, and I've only got one panel up, but I used the method linked to make a 'wave' heading. I really like it on the one panel that's up. I think it requires less fussing to get them to look nice when stacked to the sides, and it's really easy to get them to look nice when covering the window. This method requires at least 2x width, probably a minimum of 2.5x would be better. I did use buckram (my fabric is on the heavy side and the panels are lined). I have a motor on one set of blinds that's not easiily accessible (I'd have to climb over a chair to get to the cord) and we really like it. The blinds were "Prestige" from islandblinds.com and while the motor cost as much as the blind itself since the blind wasn't terribly expensive it was no big deal. It was no harder to install than any of the other blinds since the motor was self-contained in the header bar: screw brackets into window frame, pop blind into brackets, attach valance. Big whoop. The hardest part was getting the darn valance snapped on, to be honest! The motor is battery-operated and the company said maybe once a year or so at the most often we'll need to take the blind down to pop in new batteries but after 10 months they're showing no sign of running down with being operated at least twice a day. (I think it takes AAs?) Obviously mitchdesj got something FAR more expensive and complex than we did to require hardwiring and an installer there for 4 hours!

Hi, here's an "old" photo of Adobe in our small, guest BR -- before it was finished. (I haven't been on the forum for a long time but have been wanting to post a few completed projects, one of which is a headboard and pillows for this bed. Maybe over this holiday break.) Adobe is such a soothing color. When I first read your post I was concerned at the color choices then I read on realized you're the one with the Moutarde and Pumpkin and you know what you're doing. :) Your dining room is one of my all-time favorites. Interestingly and if I recall correctly, Demifloyd has sort of a reverse color situation as your two current choices. She has Adobe in master BR and soft blue drapes. Adobe for a transition from the outdoors into a home seems dark to me, but it sounds like it would work if you have a good amount of light and your other EK colors are in adjoining rooms. Was Camel or another color along those lines too light for your foyer choice? A few quick thoughts...Have you considered playing up the architectural feature of your BR ceiling by doing something different, and I could see accessorizing your BR with a range of nature's neutrals, starting with ivory and going darker, to harmonize with all the blue.

If you made the interior height higher, the roof would be even taller. And uglier. The lower plate height is what determines the living space height. It has zero to do with the roof. There's your interior height. It has zero to do with the roof height. The roof height has to with the width it has to span, and the pitch. The wider it has to span, the taller it will be. The higher the pitch, the taller it will be. Those things are why a big wide and deep house starts lice with a big ugly tall fat roof. Add in a tall pitch, and you get the horrid eyesore that is a 30’ high roof on a single story home. It has nothing to do with the interior living space. Theres’s room for more than twice as much living space in a house like that if it were stick framed and had a second and third floor. Which it could.
