10 Dreamy On-Trend Bedroom Looks
A designer picks current bedroom looks she loves, from traditional to modern and beyond
I have always found bedrooms to be one of the more interesting spaces to design and decorate, as they’re truly reflective of the tastes and lived experiences of the people who inhabit them. Whether you gravitate toward highly layered, minimal or somewhere in between, here are are 10 different looks to inspire your next bedroom makeover.
2. Eclectic Ease
Some bedrooms defy categorization but still work so well. Here, the mural of black-and-white palm trees might lead one toward more tropical colors, but instead designer Margaux Ceada opted for white linens and rich, dark accents in gray, gold and bronze. Soft white drapery panels lend easy, breezy style, and the ceiling light fixture adds just the right amount of texture and punch.

3. Nautical Nights
Classic navy, denim and white come together in this crisp, coastal-style bedroom by Fiore Interiors. The seagrass headboard creates a great backdrop for the bedding, and the framed ocean prints add just the right amount of visual interest to the mix. The addition of a rusty ochre tie-dye lumbar pillow is a playful twist.

4. Relaxed Minimalism
When nature is the star of the show via floor-to-ceiling windows, it’s best not to try to upstage that beauty by overdecorating. Herron Horton Architects opted instead to use neutral furnishings and understated bedding to accentuate the wood headboard wall and floor.
A simple white ruffled bedskirt and lots of pillows and blankets in varied shades of gray add comfort to the room while keeping the focus on the greenery outside. Which just goes to show that minimal doesn’t have to mean cold or uninviting.

5. Masculine and Dramatic
Here’s a bedroom we designed for clients in San Francisco. The commissioned painting over the bed was the driver of the color palette. But rather than take this in a coastal direction, we opted to combine global textiles in multiple patterns in black, teal and golden yellow for the custom pillows. The gray and charcoal bedding works well against the reclaimed-wood headboard and the two Airstream-inspired nightstands.

6. Bohemian Beauty
The designers at Gathered have assembled a study in relaxed texture and softness. The wicker bed and planter contrast effectively against the white bedding and walls. This Bohemian space is a fantastic example of doing neutrals right: Textures, wood, a few pop of pink in the pillows and rug and the green earthiness of the potted plant keep the space from being too one-note.

7. Modern Art Deco
There’s nothing I love more than a great channel-tufted headboard. This custom bed by Regan Baker Design with built-in nightstands is a work of art all by itself. The choice of slate blue textiles with darker indigo throw pillows works great against the walnut bed frame. The abstract-patterned wall covering and the clean lines of the black wall-mounted reading lights take the Deco-inspired bed in a more contemporary direction.

8. Tailored Whimsy
This transitional guest bedroom takes its design cues from the wonderfully whimsical fish-patterned wallpaper in hues of mint and coral. By using two twin beds instead of one larger bed, Leah Muller Interiors leverages the power of repetition to pack a design punch: Two identical upholstered headboards, white hotel-stripe bedding and ikat throw pillows coordinate beautifully.

9. Graphic Greatness
When you have a small bedroom, it’s often difficult to make it as functional as it should be. But Unique Interior Design & Decor managed to make this space both functional and visually arresting. Gray-painted walls set the stage for the graphic punches of the triangle-patterned blanket, the abstract art and the striped blinds. Black shades on silver lamps add a little shine to the oak-and-black nightstands that tuck perfectly into the corners.

10. The New Arts and Crafts
This bedroom by Lane McNab Interiors evokes classic Arts and Crafts design themes while still looking like it belongs in the 21st century. Grounding the room in a colorful vintage-inspired area rug allows the sculpted wood frames of the four-poster bed, the nightstands and the console table to shine through. Warm white walls keep the space contemporary and provide contrast to the wood furniture. And neutral bedding allows the rug to be the star attraction.

This layered bedroom by Greg Rapp Design is awash in traditional charm, from the French-inspired paisley wallpaper and window treatments to the canopy bed. Antique tables and art accent the larger upholstered pieces, all in a soft palette of aqua, gray, gold, green and pink. This is a beautifully composed and luxurious space that beckons one to stay for a while.
