Pics (& a few questions) about my in-progress bluestone hardscape
Comments (7)do away with the trees totally the view to the house is horrible... as for the color of the grout im not sure maybe a lighter spanish terra cotta would look cool next to the fence and it would base the brick caping coloring add some white to the area to pick up the windows and add variety a simple park bench and some white pea gravel.....also you have the makings of a beautiful japenese garden do away with the shrubs add a small water feature with a few koi or a pergola add some vines for a splash of color with a inside seating area maybe a swing i would fill that area where the shrubs are with white pea gravel and add maybe some caladium...maybe a small fountain or a water feature such as a large terra cotta pot with a simple pump feature with a return of some sort also...i think it will be a beautiful area just play with the ideas and pick the ones that are more like your personality you should never lose that in planning any area hope this is useful...donna...See Morecompatibility questions, lots of pics
Comments (16)Thanks, MrLike! So this Stapelia thing isn't a cactus, can't handle a lot of direct sun? And I was googling - this is what is referred to as carrion flower? Not sure this is suitable for a mini garden. How long until my little plant looks like the 2nd one down? Months, years, a decade? Is the sideways growth what these usually do? What does fire sticks do that is nasty? Thanks, Kathi!! That was all green when I got it in Jan. Had I known it would turn purple, I might have gotten two. Have since seen that it propagates very easily and there are a few babies around here already. If it hadn't been so cold lately, I'd rinse the pollen off of it. Not getting anybody wet right now....See MoreHutch finally refinished! Pics and a few questions
Comments (81)pps - I've seen pics of your beautiful house and would trade in a heartbeat. Too many unfinished projects in mine anyway :-D shay - I painfully scrubbed this hutch with a toothbrush and wax remover (and even acetone) several times to get rid of the wax finish. That toned it down a bit but I then bleached the wood because I initially wanted the grain to show through the glazing. If I had known I'd end up using a solid paint then I would have still needed to go through the wax removing process but wouldn't have bleached the wood. I've used a commercial wood bleach (a powder you mix with water) on a pine piece before and that worked well but the hardware store was out of stock. I ended up using a homemade liquid drain cleaner solution found here: Homemade bleaching/aging solution Be sure to test a small area before you do this and wear a protective mask, gloves, etc. Also, allow plenty of drying time between removing wax/bleaching and applying a new finish....See Moreplease help decide where to do walnut/white - pic below
Comments (63)i agree that the hutch takes away the lightness that the open shelves gave. i wonder if it would help if i put glass on all 4 sides? though it would still be a lone cabinet on that wall..maybe have to think about something less permanent, like a mirror or something.. annsch, unfortunately, there is no way to move the range now, especially since the hood has already been stuccoed in place. i think the venting was a bit difficult because the roof framing was very tight too, so i guess i will just have to make do....See Morerjinga
