My big decorating dilemma: help decide what to do? Lots of pics
Comments (37)Not sure I explained myself well, based on your response. I am notsuggesting wrapping the brick wall in wood, and the wood i am suggesting would match your cabinets. I am suggesting a panel of cherry that runs in a vertical line the width of the fireplace (after covering the brick surround and one brick width wider all around that in a dark granite). The rest of the wall would remain brick. The wood panel would cover the arched niche (once you knocked off the lip). You could easily add a mantel then, perhaps in the same wood or even a rectangular box of stainless steel) on top of the wood panel. The ledge may be at eye level, but that in now way precludes you from leaning a piece of art on it. Check out how art is hung in galleries and in collections in homes, and not all of is (or can be if in a grouping)at eye level. I wish I could photoshop this to better illustrate my thoughts....See MorePlease help me decide on this comforter (pic)
Comments (4)Do you have a vision in mind for what direction you want to go or an inspiration picture? If I remember from your previous post about paint, the comforter is really more of an ecru color and not white? I would first settle on what you have in mind. Is it a monochromatic look or something with more color and pattern? If it is mono, then add in varying shades of white and cream or taupe. You could add woven woods on the windows or blinds to match the trim. Below is a link to the RH site. Look at the different color combos they have. Most go with the ivory/ecru you have. Similar colors can be found most anywhere. See what appeals to you and go from there. Here is a link that might be useful: RH...See MoreNeeds some help deciding on kitchen update (pics)
Comments (1)Heidi, I think your home is completely charming. It's friendly like a big warm hug, and your view is to live for. It must make you feel good every time you look out the window. The wonderful thing about small houses is they're easier to clean and cheaper to heat or cool, leaving us more time and money for the important things in life like family, friends, and nature. Your home looks like a wonderful place to relax after a busy day. The quilt looks great hanging over the staircase, and what a great place to put it. One day I was apologizing for my messes to a dear older woman as I saw her in the front door and she said something I've never forgotten. She smiled, patted me gently on the arm and said, "Nothing creative ever comes of a clean house." :D (I'm thinking of framing that.) As for the fan, I think it's just perfect for your home, if that's what you're asking? I love the detail around the top. It reminds me of the antique Tiffany lamps with the camels and palm trees on them, which I always loved. The hammered finish where the arms attach to the blades is very pleasing. I love the color you've selected for the cabinets and it would look great with the tile. It goes with that beautiful leather chair that looks so inviting. Can you stain the cabs or would that need to be paint? Would the edges of the tile be harder to clean or maybe be crumb catchers? I can't feel it in my hand to decide. I would love to see more updated pictures. I'm terrifically color oriented and that green wall is throwing me off....See MoreABB, lots of pics & amateur mockups, please help me decide!
Comments (90)Thanks everyone! So of course the one I chose is not even one of the original top 5 contenders from the top of this thread. I chose Hampton Cararra 3x6 satin finish from The Tile Shop. I was so afraid to go with marble because I really like variation in the tiles and I didn't want to end up with boxes of all white. I found a Tile Shop near me, never knew they existed until GW. I loved that they had so much in stock, and on display. So I was able to take an entire box of the Hampton Cararra home before I decided. Its the one in my post above from Nov. 7, on the right. It had a lot of variation and was a lot less expensive than some of the options I had been considering too, so it was my winner. Herbflavor, thanks for the compliments & for remembering. You are one of many here who specifically helped me a lot. Yes the whole project now is done. We love the new use of space, its really working out for the way we live just as I hoped. The kitchen is done just how I wanted it, though of course theres several decisions I second guess, but overall I love it. The other 2 rooms which we opened into each other I am just not thrilled with how they look yet because the budget has run out but I really wanted to do more in those rooms. I wish we could get all new furniture and I wanted built ins next to fireplace and new mantle, etc but its not happening for a while. I know we have time. I hope to do a reveal now soon, but I still need a window treatment on the big kitchen window. We get tons of light so I needed to put a paper shade up and I don't want that in my final pics!! I might still need one more post for advice on a window treatment...I'm thinking a woven wood shade in a dark tone like the island cabinet. I love the light kitchen, but I really like to ground it with some dark pieces. Heres a closer up......See Moremichoumonster
