Mine were just installed a few months ago, and I am having rust spots as well. Also having discoloration in the joint lines after the pavers get wet. Overall, so far I regret not going with travertine. They also stain super easy. Got mud on a few spots and I have tried multiple things, even bleach, and cannot remove the stain from the mud even though we washed off very soon. Also, the lines from the intall are off because some pavers are not exact size, so I have gaps in them (waiting on paver install company to fix). My neighbors travertine has such a clean look installed, you don't see the gaps like you do with these because of the beveled edges. Lastly, they are just as slippery as travertine.

We have an enclosed sun room (Florida room) which we tiled with porcelain tiles. Former owners used marine grass/carpet over concrete to hide the leaks coming from the roof and walls (long story). Needless to say, we gutted the room, and tiled the floors. Since this room isn't heated and is pretty much a screened-in patio area we used a thinset approved for outdoors. We had to use alot of bags of it too because the concrete flooring was uneven and we had to grade it away from the house in case the roof and/or walls leaked again. In the end, I think the generous amount of thinset also helped the tiles to stick better. So far so good. I would post before/after photos, but I don't know how to attach them.

nutherokie you have been quite helpful. I live in so. california and when I mention this type of flooring to people they either think I am nuts or their eyes just glaze over. I remember seeing this brick flooring in a beautiful home 30 years ago and have never forgotten it. Rustic and warm feeling with nice cabinets and plenty of white molding. Maybe it was just the ocean air as it was a bayfront home. (lol) I am using black granite with white cabs and think that the red/blk/white in the used "antik" (arto) bricks will look beautiful. I am still thinking of framing approx. 16" of the brick (havent chosen the pattern yet) with a 4" wood border - transitioning the great room wood into the kitch, laund. bath and art room. Yes, I am nervous in taking this leap. In fact tomorrow, I am going to see a floor I was told about that was somewhat similar. It is so scary as if I don't like it, I really can't afford to rip it out. I do think it will be durable though. As for standing on, with a good mat under a runner, I don't think it would be any different than travertine, porcelein, etc. There are some good pictures with the wood dividing the brick on Portstone.com. After receiving some samples of that I did not care for the look. It looks much more authentic in the pics. vs. up close with regard to how the painted antique finish was applied. I am sticking with Arto at this time as I went to their factory in Los Angeles and their product is beautiful. I would even consider the 6" x 6" square pavers. I don't think they have them in the truer red that I am looking for. They lean alittle more toward the orangey tones. Sorry for the ramble. I'm still keeping my eyes open if anyone has some brilliant ideas. I have a few weeks before I have to make the decision.

@Pink_Peony First, thank you for saying the work is stunning. Good field staff make all the difference. Hmmmm.....There could be a construction driven reason why North Carolina clay is problematic for bluestone but Chicago clay is not. For the life of my I cannot think of what it would be. I would be very reluctant to accept that explanation without some engineering to back it up. Those contractors could be right, but I am suspicious of their simplistic response. There used to be very few landscape material distributors but now they are a common site. I mention this because those distributors typically sell manufactured concrete pavers as well as an assortment of natural stone. If you call a distributor that sells both manufactured and natural stone products, ask whether there are issues with bluestone or natural stone in your area. If they sell both types of paving products then they do not have a vested interest in selling modular brick versus natural stone. I suspect that the negative contractor responses at the show on bluestone are driven by the skill of their work forces, not an issue with clay soils, but perhaps not. Of the manufacturers you listed I am somewhat familiar with Belgard and Pavestone. I took a look at the Cambridge stones you mentioned. Yes, Cambridge does have some very good looking product and they also have a trademarked face mix technique called Armor Tec. That casting technique is a real plus in my mind. Of all the modular products on the market I am most familiar with Unilock but I'm not sure if they are in the Carolina's. If you do have distributors in your area ask them who the three best contractors are locally for you. What you will get is probably 1) Their biggest buyer, 2) The best installer, 3) The next best installer. :)
