Dining room refresh-wallpaper, table and chairs

Would love some feedback and a place to bounce ideas off of. We very much just used old furniture in this space and are finally going to get items that "fit" the space to make better use of this very petite dining room. The space is aprox only 10.5x 10.5 so I would like to switch out the antique dining table for a round one (hopefully around 60" to maximize seating). New dining chairs and wallpaper. This house is a craftsman bungalow and we lean traditional in taste but we are fairly young and I like the idea of the juxtaposition on traditional elements mixed with modern ones. I am thinking more traditional wallpaper mixed with modern chairs and bar cabinet. I love plants and wildlife so I am leaning towards a more botanical wallpaper in softer tones (adjoining rooms are fairly neutral with warm and cool tones). I'm still pulling things so will post more once I have a bit of inspiration but I know you all are so helpful. I would like to keep the light fixture and there is an inlet with a bar nook (not pictured) that I would like to hang a vintage murrano mirror in (have). I do have 3 young kids, items choosen need to be somewhat durable.

Man, I had to look at pic several times with diff posters commenting about diff elements, always so observant you guys. I have never considered fabric upholstery in the dining room or a rug b/c concerned about cleanup, and I've have some messes! About diff color wood, my table is totally diff than my chairs but ALL chairs match. Maybe if this lady added a plant stand or some other small furniture in the same dark stain as the upholstered chairs, it would look more cohesive, dunno. don't mind people enhancing the AFTER pic with flowers, pretty towels in a bath, etc. Or should we expect dirty dishes sitting in the brand new decorated room for a "lived in" view?????

With so many different flooring types in a small space, I'm thinking I'm either going to have to do something that matches the wood of the parlor or more of the vinyl tiles, which I'm not crazy about but they will probably last a long time. I may eventually take look at cork for the bedrooms. I would do linoleum in a heartbeat if I didn't already have a lot of patched together flooring in the "open concept" parts of the house. Dad just put in the vinyl before he moved out two years ago, so I'm stuck with that. It's in the kitchen, entry way and informal eating area on the other side of the kitchen. Dad only redid the floors due to the laundry room flooding and ruining what was there, which was the wood. He wasn't open to "out of the box" linoleum which is what I would have wanted. At the time I did not know I was moving into the house. Not sure the vinyl tiles will go any better with grasscloth than a wood floor. Actually they are not vinyl per se, I don't know what to call them, they are some kind of plastic resin. Faux marble. High end for that type of flooring. I guess we can afford engineered wood . . . they sell that in most home supply places.

I don't think I'd put a round table in that space. The rectangular one is fine, and I love your side chairs, particularly in a Craftsman bungalow.

I'd focus on the wallpaper, with a painted wainscot below. All the William Morris patterns are making a comeback. They're so beautiful and come in a lot of different colorways. Here are a few WM patterns for inspiration:

I think I'd do the William Morris style wallpaper and then decide about the table and chairs. Maybe keep the furniture and splurge on a new light and wallpaper.

RTHawk-yes, I love that wallpaper in Julia's home! I have some saved that are similar but didn't want to overload with too many choices.

Sabrina- I do love Strawberry Thief and actually have that pattern on my pillows. And I do also love the arm chairs, the inlay os beautiful BUT the table just does not fit the space. If the end chairs are pulled up to the table there is no room to walk behind. I feel like a circle or even oval table would allow for more space to move around. And while I do love the look of the table, it is a family heirloom and my husband insists on using a protrctive covering and >'d prefer a table thay's npt too precious.

Sorry, I missed that the room was roughly square. It looked more rectangular in your photos. I think a 60" round might be too large for that space; at most I'd do a 54" that you can expand when you have more people over for dinner.

I agree 60" is too big you need 36" all arond the table so 10'6" is quite tight both function and looks wise. You could do a 54" and if it has a lef you could push it for bigger group just be aware it will be tight . IMO I would do a bit more modern wallpaper your young do you really want gramma's wall paper . I think the wall paper is great place to add a bit of modern .IMO just because a house is craftsman does not need to be that on the interior.With a round table I would choose the ronded back chair but we need to see the table maybe a nice colored chair with the color taken from the wallpaper .

You can tape the floor or use boxes (for a 3d feel) to see difference between a 60-in and 56-in table. You can see below a 56-in does feel a bit more comfy.

Ok good point. I will look for something around that size point (hoepfully with an extendable leaf). And yes we are young-ish but I actually prefer the look of traditional wallpaper over modern. It doesn't have to be too old fashioned but I am a sucker for more botanical prints but also like stripes, gingham, etc too.
