I have to stop reading this forum! My new trees...
Comments (10)Ha! I know what you mean. I am sliding fast down that slippery slope. Hello, everyone. I am new to this forum. Just when I thought I had my citrus addiction under control, I planted a guava tree and wandered into this forum and now I am doomed. I know EXACTLY what you mean about the "hit". I live in South Florida, and went to the summer fruit festival at the Fruit & Spice Park in the Redlands today and look at what I got for $80 (this includes admission into the park and a mango ice which was really delicious! lol). These are all in 3 gal containers. Tamarind, dwarf june plum, ackee, black turkey fig, raspberry (I don't know what kind, but the lady said they are almost black in colour. If anybody has any idea what variety it may be, I would like to know. I did a search and maybe mysore raspberry?)So, to continue, my last purchase, a sweetheart lychee, which I MUST plant today or tomorrow because the roots are coming out of the bottom of the container. Never mind that it is like a thousand degrees outside and unbelievably humid! Yes, I am a happy camper! I might add, I passed up a jackfruit plant that was only $10. I was sorely tempted, but I have no idea where I would put it. As it is I am going to have to remove a couple of coconut trees to plant some of this stuff. I really enjoy this forum. I wish I had acres and acres to plant all the stuff I would like. I am so jealous of some of you guys that have the room to plant whatever you want. I have to look into what I could put into some really big pots that would thrive and give me some fruit. That way I can get EVEN MORE TREES!!! OK, I'll stop. I'm babbling. Just so happy about my purchases!...See MoreHonest opinions needed-would you get new cab. for above my sink?
Comments (13)Thanks, all! I just love my kitchen, even still. The only thing I'd change about it (besides what I wrote about today!) would be adding granite instead of laminate. But the entire kitchen was done on a budget ($10,000, Kraftmaid cabs), and I paid for it all myself. I had a really good job at the time and didn't want to go into debt, and this was the absolute best I could do. I actually did think of putting up a triangular wall shelf; in fact, we tried to install one last year. But on the right-hand side of that corner, there's a pipe coming down from the bathroom, which is directly above the kitchen. So where the shelf hit on the right side, we couldn't drill into it, obviously. So that idea was lost. Now I have two Ansel Adams prints framed in black with white mats in the space. Looks great, but like I said, I need more space. We have two small kids since the remodel, meaning more food, more everything! I just hate to remove that light fixture, but it might be necessary. I got it from Rejuvenation, and just love it. Wouldn't glass shelves be dangerous? As in, if I put my china there, wouldn't it have a good chance of sliding off? Is that a stupid question? LOL! My son is two and runs through my house like an elephant, causing lots of vibrations. (We have all hardwood floors). So, I need to make an appointment at Home Depot to see what options are even available in my cabinet style. I did call, and they told me a hinged corner cabinet would be $291. Thank you for suggesting maybe a shorter cabinet...that way, I could do the crown molding and it wouldn't interfere with the light. My cabinets are tall (42" I think), and if I got the smaller option (30", right?) that would solve it! I had not thought of that and it's a great idea! All your ideas are great! Thank you for them. I have some thinking, planning, and saving of money to do. :) Please don't look too closely at my tile work. I did it all by myself, and probably should have used white grout. It's so uneven in many spots and my biggest pet peeve about the kitchen. I've thought about scraping it out and starting over, but heard it's very hard to do! BTW, my tile is just regular Daltile, Rittenhouse Square, I believe. It was the cheapest option at the time for the look I wanted. Beth...See MoreHO-HUM... Where would you start/stop backsplash?
Comments (13)I would consider using the BASE CABINET edge as your stopping point. You would have a little countertop edge sticking out from the backsplash and your uppers would stick out as well. Draw a line and see if you like it. One option (more expensive) would be to tile all the way to the edge of the corner and down to the baseboards. You might have enough scrap to make that happen. That way you won't even realize it is not lined up. good luck!...See MoreWould you tile the entrance foyer or continue the hardwood to the door
Comments (3)While the wood would most likely get beat up pretty fast, the thing you would really want to a good floor mat at the door, now with the kids and the dog, along with the snow, and sand and dirt, you will want a big mat, so big it would probably cover up the floor at the entrance. If you're ok with that, and the fact that it still will get beat up quickly, then I say go for it. Tile will hold up better to the variables mentioned. Just remember nothing lasts forever, just a matter of how long or how short you're ok with the wood being pristine....See MoreLorraine Leroux
