Would you tile the entrance foyer or continue the hardwood to the door

We want handscraped hardwood throughout our first floor. I like a continuous look, it is going to be open concept and not too large, so I think the continuous will make the room seem larger. My engineered hardwood in my last home was in the main foyer, however we always entered through a tiled mudroom. I have no idea how real or engineered wood would hold up in this new home, where the entry foyer and closets are the main entry point. Snow, mud and three kids. Oh, and a dog. Tile is my least favorite option style wise. My old engineered wood looked too glossy and showed everything, maybe handscraped would be more forgiving? That is the main reason I shy away from it. It was as shiny as tile and with all the natural light it showed every footprint. I like the idea of refinishing down the line if necessary. I don't think engineered refinishes well based on an acquaintance's experience. Thoughts?
