Comments (6)I don't cut back the pseudostems. I only trim off the frosted leaves and use them to mulch the plant. Around here, any pseudostem over 4" diameter at the base don't get killed back to the ground and the 11" diameter pseudostems only lose the outer inch of diameter to the frost. In the sping, the new growth pops out of the top of the pseudostem and it carries on from where it left off in the fall. Here's a shot taken in April showing the banana mat in its winter mode. You can see the new growth appearing at the tops of the pseudostems. You can see the native white pines and the Blue Wall escarpment in the background. Here's a photo taken in September from the same location as the previous shot. Here's a picture taken of the interior of the mat with a patio chair included for scale....See MoreString of bananas, bananas are small
Comments (4)Strings of whatever can take more water than other succulents. I like when they look like they're on the verge of bursting:). The top growth over years just start to look not as good as the rest of the plant. All my strings of whatever are in bright light no direct sun. I didn't like the color my strings of pearls when they were getting afternoon sun. They turned an ugly green tan color:(....See MoreWhat bananas would Canadian growers like to see for sale this year?
