If you can remove the popcorn ceiling, it will make the ceilings look cleaner and newer. Prime the walls and paint them in white flat paint. Then, using the same shade of white in a semi-gloss finish, put an extra coat of white on the woodwork (baseboards and doors). The screen between the dining room and hallway is non-structural. You can remove it but would have to patch the floor, ceiling and connection at the sidewall. Do everything white. If you don’t like the hallway, you can always find a way to rework it later with doors or cabinets. Sherwin Williams has 50 shades of white. Thank you! That is a great idea about the grey - I think minimizing the white would really help. The landscaping idea is also very clever. I was playing with the house facade last night, and was trying to figure out if anything else could be done with the entry area to brighten it up with an accent color. Now I see your comments about perhaps not doing an accent color may be better. The original house at the back was built in the 1960s and has beautiful wood vaulted ceilings, so the interior has a lot of potential. A very 90s addition was put on the front of the house, with these semi-circle windows and tile roof - so we are trying our best to tie these varying styles together. I appreciate your help! Thank you @Patricia Colwell the fireplace is quite large- 75 " w 41" tall (opening) . We are on oil so I cant do gas and the house is concrete slab/radiant floors with concrete block walls so not sure how we would get a propane line to it - i agree the stove is odd (but very functional in NJ winters) . The fireplace is not efficient and crazy difficult to clean out. I am trying to figure out if i move the stove to inside the fireplace, eliminate the fireplace and put in some nice built ins, paint the inside the same color as the wall and do the candle set up I dont want to lose the MCM/FLW charm The TV is a samsung frame so we can change the art couches across from fireplace are 91 each so it a large room Here are photos of the overall space
