Help Select an Iron Bed to Refurbish
Comments (22)I'm jealous! Funkyart - we are doing the same thing - redoing our bedroom furniture after 20+ years with a *matched* bedroom set. We had a couple of antique pieces in there also, but wanted a more unique look, rather than a matched set. Plus, we were tired of it! LOL We bought an old armoire and hubby refitted the inside with shelves. There is an area for the tv. I have an antique vanity and a small chest of drawers that the top actually pulls down and makes a secretary. That is *my* nightstand. We are currently looking for an iron bed and an old dresser or some type chest. I'll also have to find something for hubby's side of the bed - maybe a small table instead of something with drawers. Anyhoo (I'm sure you wanted to read all that!), I love the old iron beds, but we just can't handle a double bed. I'm currently looking at a place that has new beds, but many are old looking and you can pick a custom finish, so that helps in making the piece fit in with the other antique pieces. I love numbers 1 and 2 of your beds. Let us know which one you choose! tina...See MoreNeed help with selecting flowers for flower bed
Comments (64)You'll need to remove the mulch in order to direct sow seeds (annual or perennial) or the mulch will prevent germination or growth and you'll need to keep the mulch off until stuff is big enough. I had to do this last year...such a pain and things were looking patchy for a while. You can also sow one type of seed in an area so you'll know what they are but keep in mind rain will wash things to other places and then transplant elsewhere...which is pretty easy to do and the little plants bounce back really quick. I would not mix annuals and perennials just because perennials are really slow to grow and really won't look like much for year 1. Annuals grow like crazy and you can sow them in a tray (even now) and transplant out in a few weeks so you don't have to remove the mulch and they will get big by late june and flower for the rest of the summer. I like salvia victoria blue, cosmos, alyssum, california poppies, and bachelor buttons. Post a pic when you can, would love to see the result....See MoreHelp with new kitchen picture window size above new peninsula
Comments (10)Sorry it was hard to understand. have a few little tape marks where I've measure, but still having a little trouble visualizing. I may go back to the wall and tape the whole thing out w 2 different sizes to see if I can get a better idea or perhaps knuckle down and try to sketch out my own elevation. Also had a wacky idea perhaps to try to fold a piece of cloth or sheet to the right size and tack it up there....See MoreChandelier Size Above King Bed
Comments (2)Hi P S, We're hoping that those are typos that you made for your ceiling height and the length and width of your master bedroom. We're assuming you meant 'feet' as denoted by the single apostrophe as opposed to the double apostrophe, which would indicate inches. Based on the dimensions found on Restoration Hardware's website with a minimum height of 21 1/2", you can reasonably expect it to be about a little more than 8 feet above one's head or away from the floor, depending on how you want to look at it. A typical king-sized bed is usually 76" W x 80" L x 48" H. If this is placed on the center and the chandelier is hung at the center with an overall diameter of 48", you can reasonable expect it to easily fit within the space of the king-sized bed. Insofar as clearance go, you should be fine and won't be hitting the chandelier standing up from the ground or sitting on the bed--if that is the concern. So far as light projection go, however, you probably won't be getting the kind of reach that you might be expecting from the glass-diffused chandelier, even if it is hung at its minimum height. Glass prism refracts and bend light in ways that is counter-intuitive. Nevertheless, it'll still be great for mood lighting and pizzazz for the master bedroom but for general lighting, it may be a better idea to consider a larger chandelier or have additional light sources like floor lamps and table lamps in the room. On that end, our sister brand Luxe Light and Home makes these fixtures that may interest you: Ducello (there is a custom floor lamp version for this fixture as well) Sorbonne Sophia These Luxe fixtures are sold exclusively through the Kravet showrooms so we highly encourage you to visit one near you so you can see the quality and workmanship yourself. We hope this information will help you make a more informed decision on your home needs.
