Laundry Room Design Dilemma

Help with Laundry layout and design

We are planning to move our laundry room and I have the room dimensions, but not sure where to put everything. We would like to include a sink as well. The door has to stay on that wall, but it could be slid to the right edge if needed. Storage is a plus as well because part of this area was a closet before. Ceilings are 9' if that information is needed.

Where can the plumbing go that is the big question. That clset space will be perfect for all the storage you will need in a laundry room. Is the angled wall an outside wall? What was the reason for moving the laundry? Where is this now located in the home ?

If the door moves to somewhere along that wall, yiu can have a long counter and cabinets along both walls.

bump - any thoughts? This is a new build - I don't think the bath is very efficient - too many doors. I am at a loss at how to reconfigure it. Musts: 2 36" vanities, 3x5 shower, linen closet, closet that is able to hold hanging + drawers (no dresser in bedroom) - access to laundry room from master bath or closet. We do not need a separate WC. Thank you.

I have never heard of a building code that would allow for removing the half walls on a porch - someone could fall off. I agree that you need someone to create plans that comply with building codes.

Need laundry room cabinet layout help

Build a pull-out ironing board into a ceiling-height cabinet next to the washer. In the same cabinet plan storage for laundry soap, dryer sheets, your iron, etc. Next to the dryer extend the counter all the way to the wall. Use the space beneath for a pull-out for a garbage can and a basket to toss stuff that needs to be dry cleaned or hand washed. You could install low drawers right under the counter, handy for tossing stuff found in pockets, basic tools, mismatched socks...Above the counter you could do closed storage if needed, or an open shelf to store laundry baskets. On the wall by the entrance door install a retractable clothes drying rack or two, depending on the space available. They are amazing. I have a heavy duty metal one and I found jumbo plastic clothespins that work with it, so I can hang a full load on it and it only takes up a few square feet when extended, almost nothing at all when pushed in. Plan for a full size utility sink with a cupboard base, goose neck pulldown faucet, and a foot or two of counter on each side. (Remeber to leave enough room between the left side of the sink counter and the garbage cab for the drawer to pull out. Or just skip the pullout and have it open underneath if that doesn't bother you.) The first time you have to wash a big bucket or soak a desperately stained piece of clothing you'll be glad for the extra volume. Again, closed or open storage above the sink.

Thanks, Patricia. A few reasons for moving the laundry room; first, the majority of the laundry is coming from/lives upstairs so we prefer to not have to haul the laundry up and down stairs to wash then put away (our previous home had laundry on the floor with the bedrooms and we loved it). Second, the current laundry space is pretty sub-optimal taking over the only entrance to the house from the garage and more than anything we need that space for a mudroom/storage. We only need two bedrooms upstair max which is why we're comfortable losing one to become some laundry/bathroom configuration.

Plumbing can go pretty much any place except the 3' walls. Outside wall would be that top 3'-5". Reason is current laundry room is only 5'-9" wide making it pretty tight and kitchen is small so we are wanting to use that space for kitchen/pantry. There is a wet bar area there now that we don't use so we have plumbing already in that area.

I assume the new space is either upstairs or down since I don't see it anywhere on the plan above. Wherever it is it's the largest laundry room I've ever seen, so pretty much anything goes in terms of layout. Getting rid of the angled wall will allow even more flexibility, but depending on the adjacent spaces I would look at shrinking the laundry room itself and giving back the extra space to the adjoining areas.

I updated that drawing and added the wall to enclose the are it will go. It is all one floor.

- Subtracting the angled wall, the 10'-7" wall is reduced to 9' or 108"
- The enormous LG Signature WM9500HKA is about 30" wide.
- The matching dryer would also be about 30" wide.
- Assume a 24" utility sink (example).
- 30+30+24 = 84 so you'd still have 108-84 = 24" available for, say, a cabinet/countertop adjacent to an appliance, between appliances, or adjacent to the sink.
Since there would be a bedroom on the other appliance wall, I'd consider soundproofing that wall.
