TV headphone transmitters usually need an analog sound signal from the sound source. HDMI is digital, so that won't work. I don't know if there's some kind of converter.

If the sound source is a TV set itself, you need to look at the back of the TV for either two Audio Out phono sockets (also called RCA sockets) or one small headphone socket, also called Aux Out. From one of those, both of which are an analog signal, you run the appropriate wire connections to the headphone base station.

If your TV provider can be accessed from a PC, you could set up whatever you want to watch on a PC and use its headphone socket to connect to the headphone base station.

I have this headset and it is perfect. Someone on this forum recommended this so I bought them. Easy setup and crystal clear sound. I can move from room to room with them.

I am hard of hearing. I have earbuds that plug into my ROKU controller which I can put in my pocket, and can hear my TV if I go to another room.

Your challenge remains, maggie200, to identify or find an analog audio output to connect a base station to. Whether it's an integrated set, or a bluetooth signal, or whatever.

It pays to mention that many PCs will give off a bluetooth audio signal of modest strength that could be used with any kind of bluetooth headset or ear pods. You could use that if you can access the TV shows you using a PC.

Elmer, my headphones are attached to my DVR in the back with either a red or white plug The transmitter has no battery. It plugs into a nearby socket. the headphones charge on the transmitter.

i was watching a West Wing marathon on televison this weekend and wished i had my headphones. i'm unpacking things in many rooms and usually start a tv program and then move around. I do not need to connect to my PC.

Sorry if I misunderstood, but it was you who described your situation as wanting to connect headphones to an HDMI socket, which isn't directly possible. You said no more about your setup. As to assuming what you did or didn't have, I went no further.

The red and white sockets you describe are RCA-type analog connections, as I mentioned.

Any transmitter is going to need an input. The back of this one has an Aux (3.5 mm) analog input, as I mentioned before, that connects to a headphone jack on a TV. Or, you can use optical (also called Toslink) that would be unusual to find on the back of a TV.

I would avoid this little known brand you've linked to.

There's no magic involved, as I said before a headphone (or earbud) base station requires an input from a TV. Or, if there's a flow through with a DVR on, from a DVR. Usually it's an analog one.

Any hardware needs something to "broadcast".

The starting point is to be looking at the back of your TV, not on the internet. Post a photo of what's there.

Lisa, i didn't know that. i have wired earbuds for my iPad and iPhone. i think it is a big deal.

I got DH the Avantree head set...easy to set up and it comes with several different connectors to your TV depending on what you have. We used the optical on our TV. He's very happy with it. The base unit is blue tooth and plugs in. The head set lasts a long time without recharging and uses the same adapter as his cell phone to recharge. He is very non-techie and has no trouble operating this one.

He likes to listen to the TV in the a.m. and I don't want to hear it.

I also use the optical to connect the Avantree head set. My model allows me to still have my sound bar connected.

We seem not to be communicating well so I'll stop trying to be helpful. The signal originates at the TV and running it through a DVR of unknown age and condition for no apparent reason doesn't strike me as a good idea. You started off saying you wanted to connect headphones to an HDMI socket (not possible) and not much more progress has been made.

I've set up various audio and sound equipment systems dozens of times. Sony and Sennheiser are the leading brands for TV headphone devices and have been so respected for years. I've set up one of each for two different family oldsters, it's quite simple. We've found that they work well and seem durable. Avantree is not a well known or respected name, it strikes me as somewhat of a fringe HSN or QVC type product. I wouldn't recommend it.

Elmer, thank you for your dedicated help. i'd invite you over for your favorite cocktail and point at my “thing” if you were my next door neighbor. you are a fount of knowledge and am so mad i made you fret. . I know my terminology is a mess. i have the latest xfinity cable box. let me show you the sideways picture i showed before. only on Houzz do I have sideways pics from my ipad. i remember it happening when Apple first introduced the devices. You will see my very old audio transmitter sitting on the cable box with headphones on top. in back of that box i matched the red and white sockets to the transmitter.

the headphone charged on the top of the transmitter. it was called a wireless audio.

I have not used this for a couple of years as everything in this den room and others were flooded out a 1 1/2 years ago. The device continued to be connected to Xi.

With the place torn up and back together here I am to address some smaller issues.
