Can I grow Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud in WI....or alternatives?
Comments (3)I'm in Washington county so likely northwest of you. My Oakleaf Hydrangeas where a failure even in the mild winters we had. I don't think they like my sandy loam which gets on the dry side throughout summer. I only had a Little Honey survive because it was in a moist location and mostly shade. Still isn't exposed for to check it yet. They are otherwise hardy around here just need the right spot. I've seen plenty old specimens....See MoreJapanese Maple or Weeping Texas Redbud?
Comments (4)What part of Zone 8? If you are in a hot climate the redbud may do fine in quite a bit of shade, although even in regions where these are native surely the crown is not as dense beneath other trees as it is in the open. Otherwise, both kinds of trees are frequently asked about due to problems with them dying back. And neither likes a damp, heavy soil - if that is what you have. It is possible you need to use something else entirely, such as a weeping crabapple - although if there is a lot of shade this is liable to look thin. And if the shade all comes from one side it will probably lean away from it in time....See MoreRuby Falls Weeping Redbud - So far so good in Zone 5b
Comments (8)perhaps your own post.. with more facts and we can help you I pink ... in my z5 MI.. there is a world of difference between the hardiness of a redbud.. and a foo foo dogwood ... so i doubt the fact that whatever is 'weeping' is the issue .... congrats ck ... i suspect you wood fence.. cut the blistering winter winds ... which MIGHT be the down fall of your redbud ... in my MI ... winter winds are from the NW ... and based on the other forums you list .. you probably have the same ... btw.. z5 is about half the US and wildly divergent as to winter... i would be curious as to big city name ... the fence might actually be a problem... with an evergreen... as winter sun might cause issues ... heat build up in winter.. but i digress ... in this case.. you have no leaves to save or be injured in winter .. go figure ... ken...See MoreHow to fix a shower pan weeping hole from leaking?
