My friend's wife was cleaning their master bath. Above the toilet (you can probably tell where this is going) is a glass shelf. Wanting to get the glass all nice and shiny, she removed all the items from the shelf and then the glass. It slipped out of her hand and fell into the toilet bowl such that the corner point broke through the bowl. It didn't go completely through; there was no water on the floor. It broke through into the interior water pathway that feeds the hole at the bottom which starts the siphon when flushed. The toilet would no longer flush properly. To top it off, it was a non-white fixture in a color that was no longer made, not even a "close enough". They had to settle for a new white toilet. Moral of the story: things can always be worse! The End.

Seems like the universe is punishing people for cleaning too much 🤔

So disappointing when something like this happens. I hope you can replace it without too much trouble or expense.

There are companies that can come to your home and repair the porcelain and you won't even be able to tell anything happened.

Good grief. ive never seen anything like that. so sorry . Maybe stick a bucket underneath and use it?

In the misery loves company vein, I too have a story.

In a former home, our range was in an island. Above it was the G*d awfulist range hood I ever saw. Old and discolored and huge. A real headbanger. I convinced DH to take it down, so he crawls in the attic to loosen it. A situation fraught with peril, as we worked to ease it down and not drop it on the glasstop range.

We got it down eventually and were feeling real proud of ourselves for a smooth project. We cleaned up the mess and DH prepares to come down out of the attic. He lays his hammer at the edge of the now-open exhaust vent. He turns around and accidentally nudges the hammer which falls directly down in the middle of the glass cooktop. Did you know they can shatter? They can and will.

That's too bad your sink was smashed

I'm so sorry and I can totally relate. I did a full gut bath remodel about 10 -11 years ago. Somewhere (I don't even remember where now) I found a gorgeous, hand blown glass vessel sink. Not like the ones that look like a bowl that are quite common, but this was thick and had something metallic incorporated inside the glass. It was a real artisan piece and $$$$. I designed the whole bathroom around it.
The plumber my contractor used was like a bull in a china shop. Sink was installed no problem, but maybe 6 months later, it cracked in two. The artist said the plumber had tightened the drain fitting too tight and it finally cracked. I couldn't afford to replace it with another, so, oh, well. It was beautiful for a while.
I hope yours is easily replaced without affecting you counters or cabinets. .

What the heck does the light fixture look like? Was it STONE???? This is one FREAK accident.

I am so sorry. I would be so sad too. Freak accidents are so annoying when there is not much you could have done to prevent it. At least it is "just" a sink. Would be so much worse had that been your head! 😆😳

Just to note.....those porcelain repairs are only done on the surface of the piece. This has a chunk out of it. That cant be fixed.

In our old house with 1900s lamps I learned the hard way that even the ones that had small screws to hold the fixture in place to remove the fixture if I could before changing the bulb. Or on the ones where the bulb was the only thing holding them in place to physically hold the fixture and unscrew the bulb being careful.

I agree, so etimes, it definitely seems like the world is against us when we start to clean. One simple cleaning thing turns in to a total freaking disaster. So sorry, and hope your Thanksgiving goes without another hitch.

I’ve barely started except for buying almost everything I need, so can’t wait to see what happens in the next few days.

FWIW, a family friend broke her shoulder while she was cleaning, she was vacuuming and tripped and fell when she backed up.

So sorry.

But to the cleaning part- at the start of covid, my dear sister decided she should clean. She rarely does, as they have a cleaning woman in normal times. So she was polishing furniture and somehow the spray must have hit a little bit of the floor- she slipped and banged into the wall. HARD.

She had a black eye, and more importantly, had fractured her hip.

She is since fully recovered not even a limp.The only good part was that when they went to the hosptial- called in for emergency- there was zero waiting and the staff knew who they were right away like celebrities!
