Sandy Slade, I am interested in your project as a Marmoleum owner whose dog's bowl sat on a carpet square on our linoleum. We did not know that as he was drinking, at the end of his life, he often also peed on the square of carpet. His urine was so dilute that it never smelled. So the carpet square remained damp. After his death, we picked up the square and learned about the wetness. It had actually caused the linoleum to mold. It smelled pretty bad and discolored the flooring. I was able to make the smell go away over time, but the stain remains. This is real linoleum - the natural product made of jute, wood dust, cork, pigment and linseed oil. Not vinyl flooring, which is often called linoleum by the general population, but is actually plastic and other things. I had a luxury sheet vinyl applied to our bathroom floor in our last house. It was thick and did not bend well. We had leftovers and they were rolled up and put into the basement. It became brittle in just a few years, or the weight of the thick roll flattened it down upon itself and it cracked and split because it was bending, not staying in a roll when it fell or was set on its side instead if sitting on end. I could not imagine it going around the corners of a shower, so there would have to be seams there. My solid surface shower has seams at the corners, but it also came with sealant and corner cove molding to cover the seams. I believe that Swanstone and or Corian solid surface showers have these corner moldings available. These might be helpful for your experiment with a vinyl shower (I really do not think you meant real linoleum, but are planning to use vinyl).

Sometimes an old thread like this one can very interesting, so - I installed Marmoleum click in my kitchen 10 years ago. Verdict: very disappointing and now I'm looking to replace it. I loved the original color and the way it felt underfoot, but in so many ways it has been subpar. It stains so easily - I have a permanent dark circle from a pet food dish that had a black rubber ring underneath it, and that happened in a very brief time period. That's only one of several stains. The seams between tiles are lifting and puckering. The floor has faded in color very unevenly. It looks like it came from two different color batches, which it didn't when new. And, as several people have commented, it dents easily. Time for something else!

Lisa--Does no one in Florida open their windows and just let the fresh air in during the cooler times? Frankly, that is one of the reasons I was thinking LVT might be a good solution. Unless it's really hot and humid, we are pretty much let the fresh air in type of people. But, I also did some more thinking about the LVT that I was planning to install--Flooret--which features extremely large planks with enhanced bevels. I've now reinforced my earlier thought that I don't like the enhanced bevel (with each separate plank emphasized) look that seems to currently be popular in both engineered hardwood and LVT. I much prefer the look that one gets with real tongue and groove, on-site finished floors. A more regular, smoother surface constancy in look that is the way the old-fashioned 100-year-old oak and maple floors in our primary home present. Now that Christmas is over I may go back to the flooring stores to take a look at my options. For the main floor, IF I could find some timeless-looking porcelain tile that I liked a whole lot and that isn't a trendy design (sorry, but I think wood look porcelain is super trendy) and whose installation cost isn't a killer I could maybe maybe consider that. But, it's my understanding that hard tile is quite an expensive install. I like Marmoleum, but it doesn't have the look I want. And, last time around when we did some remodeling I investigated it and found it to be very pricey. And, I think I am going to give my realtor a call to get some feedback about what she hears from buyers in the area. Thanks all.

I have a finished basement playroom for my grandchildren. I bought colorful foam mat tiles which interlock for the floor. They were put directly over concrete. The floor is soft, and not cold!
