Comments (41)Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor....See MoreBathroom Reno Questions
Comments (3)This is what I did when we did a gut job for our master bath. Start by finding a contractor because the labor will set the tone for your budget. Then start building a board. Since you're going to keep your cabinets, find the next larger expense which is the counter and tub then the tile. Fixtures for lighting and plumbing come next, then window treatment and then paint color. I suggest leaving the paint color until last so you can pull a color from the window treatment, tile or even your towels and accessories. ** I didn't build a board, but I should have. Building a board gives you the benefit of a visual to see if the flow of all your choices works. Before you do any of that though, do a little reading in the bathroom forum about what it takes to do some of the jobs you've mentioned the most important being the shower work. Get to know the products available, what works the best and why so you are knowledgeable enough to know what questions to ask and if the answers will meet what you need to be done. And be prepared or willing to be around when the crew is working. Don't get in the way but make your presense known, check in, ask questions. There was a couple of times I caught things that weren't right or that I at least wanted differently than it was being done. So educate yourself, supervise and don't be afraid to ask questions when you don't understand. A lot of people have trouble finding a good contractor. My trick was to ask someone in the construction trade for a referral. The tile store referred a tile guy, who then referred a Master plumber who typically worked on new builds. He had a buddy who was a fantastic carpenter and General Contractor. They typically won't refer someone unless they know their good and both of the guys I mentioned above wanted feedback if I ran into problems. ETA: I forgot to say that it's helpful to find inspiration pictures to help you with style and a direction. And I'm not sure how busy the bath forum is now a days but it would be a good idea for you to cross post there as well. The pros and diyers were the bomb when I was working on our project. I learned so much from them!...See MoreBathroom Update Without Full Reno
Comments (42)If I were to live with this green marble bathroom for a long while, I'd embrace it, as Palimpsest says. My wallpaper would be bold and I'd consider pairing the green with gold, pink, purple and/or navy. Perhaps I'd paint the vanity and wall cabinet. Not sure if I'd use the wallpaper everywhere. Here's a picture from Barbara Sallick's The Perfect Bath. Green and gold powder room. I found these wallpapers that tickled my fancy as a possible pairing for this marble. (I found a bunch of other options but I found them a bit too pricey for a "temporary" refresh.) Amazonia from WallpaperDirect: JewelBox from Spoonflower: Palm Leaves from WallpaperDirect: Justina Blakely's Nana at Hygge & West: If you are tempted by wallpaper, make sure you get samples. There are so many shades of green out there and monitors are rarely true. Another idea that might work: use wallpaper samples as your art. Good luck and please keep us posted!...See MoreNeed help/advice with a mid century bathroom reno
Comments (29)Great that you are keeping the tile. I like a grey wall with peach. If you have the heart for wallpapering, here is a great before and after from someone on houzz who kept the original wall tile and got stunning wallpaper to compliment. Also be sure to check out Retro Renovation that dedicates and entire section of their blog to peach/pink retro tile bathroom renovations. They have a whole guide for how to select wall and accessory colors that will take into consideration your Burgundy accent color. If you can replace the sink with something open to the wall, I would try to get a console sink, meaning one that has legs in the front - instead of a pedestal, which has one leg in the center. I found a fantastic console sink from the 1930s on craigslist. It has glass legs. Beautiful. Here are just a few Houzz examples of consoles. Here are a few random peach tile pics from houzz for encouragement. Nice white wall with patterning from curtains Pretty shade of grey paint with pink tiles More grey and crazy though perfect wallpaper Lastly, what is the lower metal door for to the right of the sink? So curious....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
