Small kitchen reno - please help asap!
Comments (20)nsm - Great question. I originally wanted the Ringhult, but it's too dang expensive for this humble abode and I feared the look was too modern anyway. The pink undertone gave me pause--I even talked to the kitchen sales gal about it. She suggested it's because it's next to such a pure white with the Ringhult and the lighting in Ikea doesn't do it any favors. If you look at the other displays at Ikea--especially the sink display--that's Veddinge and it didn't read pink to me. The color is relative, I think. My walls are Sherwin Williams Snow Bound and they look very complimentary. I like the two together a lot. However, my fridge and range are closer to pure white and when I compare them to the cabs they look there iis a slight pink undertone. Of course, no one sees this but me and I actually like pink anyway. If one has stainless steel appliances I don't think they would notice the undertone unless they tried to pair Veddinge with a neutral counter or backsplash that has a yellow or green undertone, which would probably not look good. We've been using the cabs for about two months and so far so good. Since they're painted I don't expect them to last forever. In our last house we had the Adel white shaker style that I think was a thermafoil and I loved that finish. wore like iron. If the shaker style came in white rather than the creamy color I would have jumped on that style again, but I dislike SS appliances and white appliances with the Grimslov doesn't look good to me....See MoreLeast worst option; reno needed, now we're moving - what toilet color?
Comments (14)Thanks, Karenseb! Even with a credit, I think we have to do something now anyway - since right now there is no toilet in there, and the old tile was loose where the leak had been. I wonder if that leads me back to just putting in the new (but not overly pricy) tile and a middle-of-the-road white toilet, since they'd probably use white for any future work. But I think to advertise it as a 2.5 bath house, a toilet has to actually be in place? Kind of a circular problem - I'd rather just give them the cost of any repairs in cash, but some repairs may be needed to sell it at all... Thanks!...See MoreKitchen Reno: Overwhelmed By Color Options!
Comments (9)I’m midway into the total kitchen renovation Just how far along are you? If you're midway into the actual demo and construction, you should have the answers to most of your questions already. With the cabinets already ordered, I'd call off the work for now and wait until you have things figured out. Part of should be ensuring that the new kitchen works with the older house : ) . Also, since you have the cabinets ordered, does that mean you have your appliances decided upon/ordered? Including the Hallman range? If you haven't already, I would read through this thread, https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5135982/advice-about-purchasing-a-hallman-industries-range By the way, what are the cabinets? Do you have a layout and/or elevations you can share with us? do I go with the brass Hallman range, the dark Farrow and Ball paint, the colorful CLE zellige tile You're correct about limiting the number of stars (or clowns, as some people say lol). Depending on what kind of cook you are (tidy or messy), and where you're planning to put the Zellige tile, Zellige tile might not be the best choice for a backsplash. That said, the backsplash is something you can leave until the end, and it's often best to wait so that you CAN see everything else in place. Do you have pictures of your selections?...See MoreLooking for advice before I approve kitchen, Swiss farmhouse reno
Comments (4)Thank you both for your reply! @Zalco/bring back Sophie! I was also thinking about the possibility that the countertops would be too trendy, I will have a look at the solid colours and how they look with the backsplash. @mama goose_gw zn6OH Good point about the layout. I'm not sure if there is room to the right of the sink but I'm going to go have a look. Right now the dishwasher is behind the hidden panel under the little tray of orange juice. I was thinking it should go to the right of the range if possible for symmetry but that would move it even further away from the sink so maybe that's not a good idea......See More- 4 years ago
