How should I fill this empty wall?

I have this empty wall in my living room and would love to hear some suggestions on how to fill it. I already have gallery photos in my house (office and hallway pictured towards the left).

Should do large-scale art? Or break it into 3 pieces of art with other decor?

High traffic area and narrow space.

Height from the trim 7 feet

Width 10 feet

You haven't really positioned a sofa in front of a fireplace, have you? Your room's furnishings need a new layout. Either the fireplace goes on that wall or the sofa goes on that wall. Start there.

Colors? Traditional, modern, ??? need more storage? High traffic area?

Looks like a good spot for a shallow console table unless that would constrict the traffic pattern too much. You could put some decor on the console and then some art on the wall. I'm not a big fan of mirrors other than in foyers, but if you were to use a mirror you wouldn't be the only person to do that in a living room. :-) If you don't want to do a gallery wall then you could do one large piece, or 2-4 smaller pieces arranged symmetrically. Since art is very personal I never give people advice on particular pieces. Plus I don't see any cues to your style in the picture. Hopefully you will find something that you really like and will enjoy for years to come. This is a foyer arrangement, but maybe it will give you an idea.

A tall plant in a beautiful pot, if the light is sufficient from the window, would keep your other two plants company. Also consider an interesting vintage mirror for the wall to reflect the plant and light from the window.

Agree, wait. We’ve had several homes on our street sell in the last two years and all of them have required some unexpected outlay in that time frame for the new owners. It’s not fun to find surprises and even less fun when you’ve spent your money on something else. You don’t know what kind of stewards the previous homeowners were. My friend was having a new kitchen and whole new flooring installed. Two weeks before the kitchen was to go in, they noticed water leaking in their dining room and kitchen from the ceiling. Found out the previous owners cheapened out on the roofing and had to have a new roof installed…8K (this all passed inspection when they purchased 3 years ago). The DAY BEFORE the new floor was to be installed, water came running down the wall from a window during a rainstorm. Found out there was NO FLASHING around the windows and the wooden jambs had rotted. That was less than 2k to fix if i remember correctly. They’ll be replacing all windows soon. WAIT

You could hang a small but colorful picture there and then add other decor items in whatever colors are in the painting around the space. Maybe a couple throw pillows on the couch, bowl of colorful fruit on the table, vase of flowers, etc…. Not sure what that grey wall outlet thing is, but I would have it match the others or paint it the wall color. Once it is all painted and back together is will look great!

I agree with Beverly. Maybe you arranged it that way because you didn't want a TV above the fireplace?

Arrange the couch with the back against the window, and the TV against the blank wall. (So the fireplace is off to your right.)

Then the wall where your TV used to be will be empty. Maybe a large bookcase would fit there?

The fireplace can't be moved and isn't currently functioning.

Nobody is saying to move the fireplace. Even though the FP doesn't work, it's still a piece draws the eye, and having the couch in front of it looks weird. Can the couch be moved? Can you give us more pictures of the whole room, or a floorplan? (even if it's roughly sketched?)

Here's a rough "floorplan" if my photo mockup doesn't make sense. Is there a window over off to the right? Moving your couch in front of it should look fine (unless it blocks a door or something).

I'll draw up a floor plan but the couch won't fit unfortunately there's also an air vent near the windows that can’t be covered.

I’ll wait to see the floorplan, but sometimes the answer is trading in furniture that physically doesn’t fit a space for furniture that will.

It looks very odd to me to have the fireplace behind the sofa. We need to see a floorplan to make valuable suggestions and please indicate where that air vent is (on floor? on wall?) so that we can take that into consideration.

thanks for posting more pics! I see the couch is pulled away from the FP more than I initially thought. maybe it looks odd from that first angle, but IRL it might not be so bad. If that layout works for you, don't let us bully you into rearranging, LOL.

To answer your original question: a narrow console table with a piece of oversize art would work for the blank wall. Like what kandrewspa suggested above.

Hi Lisedv,

Your rendering is exactly what we want to do with a new couch and the remodel of the fireplace. :) I love the idea of adding additional seating to the wall and breaking up the space. For now, I'm going to leave the wall blank until we are ready for the remodel.

In what I show, I just placed the furniture I saw in your pictures... Doesn't have ot be a loveseat if you're buying new furniture, a nice comfy chair and side table would work nicely.
