What should I do with my kitchen?
Comments (9)Removing the wallpaper, painting, and replacing the countertops will make a huge difference in your kitchen. While you are at it, think about changing the pendant over your sink and adding hardware to your cabinets. (And post a picture if you do. I have those exact same cabinets and have been wanting to add hardware for 4 years! Oh, and I have TWO of those same pendants in my bathroom. Yep ... two huge balls ... I've heard all the jokes.) If you don't have enough space under your upper cabinets for a microwave, could you raise the two cabinets over the stove? You have plenty of ceiling height and staggered cabinet heights are very "in" right now, and I'd hate to see you lose that storage. You'd want to mock it up to be sure the height difference looked intentional. You might even be able to dress up the cabinets with some molding on the top. It looks like you have a nice, bright window over your sink. Could you move the lotion, soap, and cleaning items to a basket under the sink (or a basket that hangs off the inside of the cabinet door) and use that window sill for herbs? Maybe something like this over-the-cabinet-door-organizer. With a small kitchen, you have to be on constant clutter control. I've been known to "hide" extra items in baskets on top of my cabinets. I'm not sure if baskets suit your style, but you might be able to steal a little pantry space by placing some decorative baskets or bins on top of your cabinets. Just don't put anything heat-sensitive up there. One final thought, you might look at the paintable cord covers for your living room television. DH used one in our study. (I heard a few choice words as he struggled to squeeze all the cords into the tube, but it looks really nice now!)...See MoreWhat to do with this empty wall in the kitchen?
Comments (7)It doesn't look like you have a ton of storage space in your kitchen. I would put in a pantry cabinet, either in a wood tone to match the cabinets, or white. If you don't need the storage, artwork on the wall would perk it up a lot!...See MoreWhat color kitchen should I do for my home?
Comments (6)Not sure if you have already committed but I know a lot of people want an all white kitchen. In fact, I had one in our old home and would NEVER make that decision again if I could go back in time. The problem, they are EXTREMELY difficult to keep clean. Yes, they look so pretty but are you ready to put in the work to maintain that pristine look. For me, with children, it was and is a nightmare. Currently in our home being built, we did go with a white island and got dark grey blue uppers and lowers(so two toned). I would go with a with island and black for uppers/lowers...OR black island with black lowers and have white uppers(if you still want the white cabinets). This would go really nicely with black backsplash and whit counter top OR cement grey counter tops with white backsplash(you can play around with style of them). I am not a fan of white oak but that's just me. Hope everything is going well with your home building process! :)...See MoreWhat color should I use on my kitchen walls with Taj Mahal counters?
Comments (1)I have these countertops and it depends on your color balance. every room should have light, medium, and dark tones. now dark doesnt need to mean black, but the darkesst tone in the room. for yu, it might be your floor or that maybe the lightest as we don't have sample pictures. If your floors are light, I'd recommend darker hardware and accent pieces. everything then would be very light and i would use a midtone (a color between your lightest and darkest piece) that has a bit of yellow or rust to it (though the countertop can be beige, gray, and white with a rust veining, it can also be green. So I recommend picking your exact slab of quartzite, because if you don't, you won't know which you will get. Anyways, my style isnt everyones, but this can give you an idea. The stone on the right has every color in the cabinets, back splash, appliances, and the countertop. So one of these colors, even in a lighter or darker tone, should work. If you can get samples of each piece and create a board for the room, this may also help you select the right color for you and your home....See MoreHU-555507609
