What size coffee table is best for large u-shaped sectional?

We are getting a new, large sectional and we are trying to figure out the best size of coffee table. We found one we like that is 52" square but I'm wondering if 13" around is enough space. Any thoughts?

btw the piece on the right, that is 47" is an ottoman. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I'd buy a large tray and use the movable ottoman as a 'coffee table'

Get a couple C tables that you can move around as needed.

A clearance for walking of 13" is pretty tight but very close to what I would call our "minimum coffee table clearance" of 14". Typically 18" is ideal and your coffee table should be 2/3 the length of the sofa run that it sits in front of. Depending on the users of this space it could work from a physical standpoint, but wiil be more diffcult for anybody that is very oversized or has any ambulatory issues. As far as the scale and how looks it it hard to say without photos. Good luck!

Update, and David, thanks so much for your reply. I wanted to get a rectangular table, but I thought that would limit the amount of surface space since I only had 60" to place the table. The depth of the area is 28" from the seat to the end of the chaise. You kind of need 12-15" on either side of a table to comfortably get around I would think. There were no tables I could find (that I liked) that narrow to make the rectangle, so I went with the Leister Shaker Cherry Square table. I got it in the heritage stain for the top and the Capri Cream for the bottom so it would go more with the console table our LCD television sits on. I think it will go marvelously well with the other cherry stained stuff we have nearby. I went to a store called Nastasi's in Oaklyn NJ. It was a WONDERFUL experience!!! They are a mom-and-pop store that will really work with you. They had a few Leister cabinets and tables on the floor so I could really see what the quality was. I will shop at this store from now on! Great prices! Originally I was going to go with the Shaker Ash but wasn't too crazy about the stain colors on that wood. They sold me the Shaker Cherry for only $8 more, when the tables at their prices were $50 apart. Nastasi's has appliances as well and very high quality stuff for great prices. I highly recommend this place based on my limited experience. They worked hard to get this small sale and treated me as if I were spending $10,000 instead of $358 (price of that sweet shaker table!) Advice needed regarding sectional sofa dilemma

That is the only living space in the house. It's a townhouse we're renting for a year or two. We sacrificed on space to be close to the beach, which has been an awesome choice, until Irma, of course. We don't have any other "real" furniture for the living area, and we wanted to avoid purchasing anything until we bought a home, but when the old sofa had to go, we had to replace that. So we don't have any other seating, but it's really not a big deal. We don't have kids or family in the area, and we don't have a bunch of people over at one time, so the sectional is enough for our current needs. Is there anything in particular you would suggest for ottomans? I would like something that fits physically with the sofa to get something close to a chaise feel without having to close off the space permanently as you would with a chaise. Finding the right size is important too, as I dislike the really big ottomans for sectionals; they take up way too much space and prevent the use of a coffee table.

I would not put a coffee table in the middle of that sectional, the space is too small for it. Instead I would get two matching end tables for each end of the sectional. And then I would get an accent chair and put a small table next to it. And then I would remove those two lettered boards and hang one large piece of art.

Thanks for the great tips. Yes, it's a good point that 16 won't be sitting at the same time...more like 12 or so. Sadly, I have to go fairly dark due to the cleaning and staining issues. I should have added that I plan to add a large 12 x 15 area rug to break up the dark sofas from the darkish wood. I can't go with medium gray because it will look too "matchy-matchy" with the med. gray stone fireplace. Quick question/concern...I searched for sofas that are made from "Sunbrella" people here suggested and there are only a few and they are outdoor sofas. Mostly, the Sunbrella fabric is pillows. Also, I'll be removing both sofa tables behind the sofas that are there now, so that will give me another~ 4+ feet. But I still plan on putting more narrow sofa tables as I don't want the sofas right up against the walls, so it will be more like an extra 2 feet I'll be gaining. Any other suggestions for a "tough" fabric that won't be torn easily? We've had issues with guests sitting on the sofas, etc., with keys, etc, in their back pockets that tear the fabric or snag it. What are opinions on leather? Vinyl? Also, I'd like to lighten up the room with a cleaner, more modern white (ish) paint, maybe with a touch of gray, )but not with any blue or "pink" in it.) The walls are now painted Sherwin-Williams "Accessible Beige" and the Doors (not seen in the pictures are "Dovetail"...which I LOVE, but is way too dark for the walls. I've already gone down the line of the "Dovetail" paint strip and the lighter colors look kinda "pink-ish" in that room.) Thanks again everyone

I agree with handy "C" tables that can move about, hold snacks and devices. Use the ottoman with a tray just for looks. Should be 12-18" from the sofa for navigation and to be reached easily.

I'd add a second matching ottoman. You can use it with a tray or a flat piece of the type of foamboard used for exercise flooring. Or move it up to the sectional for lounging options.

Get a 42 to 48 inch ROUND!!! cocktail if you plan to leave that ottoman in place. You'll have a comfortable 15 or 18 inches of clearance, and no nicked knees or shins. Keep it very light and airy and open. Marble top on iron.....glass on iron or another metal. If wood? Round, Light and VERY open, no shelves etc.

Anything else will look like a HUGE SOLID and heavy, "blocky" mass in your room.

(Just one, of the many reasons I hate that sectional configuration). Boxes you in, quite literally. Maybe just go to bed? : )

Do NOT add another upholstered thing to that configuration unless this is your basement for the kid sprawl.
