Joint supplements?
Comments (16)Glucosamine has been salvation for my DH and me. When taking auto trips or sitting at my desk at the office for house, I could hardly get out of the of the car or the chair. So several years ago we started taking glucosamine daily and now can drive from home to Atlanta (7.5 hours) with no stiffness at the end of the trip. Or I can sit at my desk at the office for hours and get up without looking like I'm 90 years old. The problem I have had, as mentioned above, is getting the right brand. Since I have had some ineffective brands before, I asked the vitamin store manager if she knew for sure that her brand was effective before I bought a jumbo bottle. She was agitated that I questioned it. Well, it was totally ineffective so I took it back after using 3/4 of the supply. The store was in another town so it wasn't convenient but I wanted to take it back because of the manager's attitude. Well they took the bottle and said okay. No refund, no explanation, no recommendations, no apologiesÂzilch. I have had the best and quickest relief from Flexium. The problem with this brand is it's very expensive. Comments (13)Alisande-Thank you for bringing this back up.I read your OP and was going to go back and write down all the foods that you posted as having solanine and do some research and just never got around to it.It's interesting because DH and I both have joint pain and we eat a lot of the foods you mentioned. My joint pain has been worse the last couple of weeks but I attributed it to the weather.I am wondering now if it could be due to the case of oranges and grapefruit I bought from a peddler three weeks ago and have been eating at least 2 or 3 of each daily since! Ya think???LOL I'm going to eat the last grapefruit in a few minutes then that's it! I am going to try the ACV capsules first and see what happens. Will buy them tomorrow. Hayjud-I had rheumatic fever as a child also but never connected it with my joint pain now.Duuh!LOL Sue-DH and I are diabetic. We control it with our diet.I use Splenda to sweeten anything that I use to sweeten with sugar.I know a lot of people say the taste is different, and it may be somewhat, but my family can't tell the difference.I have found that using a little less than you would of sugar is best. NSAIDS scare me.LOL...See MoreJoint supplements
Comments (7)We give Thor, our senior mastiff, Canine Cortaflex, a liquid supplement containing MSM, glucosamine, and chondroitin. The maker offers a money-back guarantee if you are not pleased with the results. It is expensive (we buy 4 32-oz containers for $50 each; 32 oz. lasts about 3 months on a maintenance dosage, half that time on a loading dosage) but nothing else we tried worked as well. I also give Thor fish oil daily. Thor has partial ACL rupture in one knee and we did not want to do surgery. We had him on Rimadyl and were looking for supplements. We tried Cosequin and other joint care capsules, but could not reduce the Rimadyl dosage. Our area mastiff rescue coordinator recommended Cortaflex, which she gives to all her mastiffs. We've been able to decrease Thor's Rimadyl dosage significantly. Thor seems to be in no pain -- he now wants to run with the younger dogs and is out walking easily and happily around our large yard. He is comfortable getting up and lying down....See MoreCat with arthritis? Problems moving.
Comments (157)Just wanted to give an update. Monkey is still hanging in there. About 3 weeks ago, it wasn't looking great as his lump had grown very rapidly in the prior two weeks, so we tried another chemo. He did well for the last 3 weeks. Good energy, purring. But in the last day or so, I've noticed some of his prior behaviors coming back. The pacing/restlessness and the strange litter box behaviors. I'm a little nervous that the brain involvement is beginning again. We were scheduled for his next chemo next week, but I called and we moved it up to today. I'm hoping it will help this latest issue. I'm also going to see if we can start him on some pain meds to keep him comfortable. I'm a little worried this is the beginning of the end, since I saw this exact progression before his radiation to the point where we almost put him to sleep. I always knew that the treatments were only buying us some time but admittedly part of me was in denial after seeing him respond so well. But I'm at peace with the situation as I know I tried everything I could and sometimes these things just happen. If you have any spare good thoughts, I'd appreciate them for Monkey and my family that he will feel a little better, and if this is the last stage, that he won't be in too much pain and that I will know when it's time. It's so hard because I want to spend time with him but he doesn't really want attention or affection right now. :(...See Moresushipup2
