Arthritis in pets
Comments (19)Thank you all for the suggestions. Ferrett (who is our bestest cat) gets max health care and is now taking Cosequin (the ingredients are Glucosamine and Chondroitin) so Jody, you'll have mail. The new drug is somthing that's only recently been approved for cats (dogs have been getting it for some time) it's a non-steroidal anti-inflamatory; twice a week and it should start being effective in a week and a half. I guess X-rays are good because we can non-invasively see what the problem is, but dang, those two ball and socket joints were bad. Kate, I giggled at your comment about this being a cat who tolerates water. At the Vets office yesterday I was muttering about sewing her a wet suit (yes, Project Runway is on). A friend in NOLA has a Katrina dog, mini dachshund and has wading pool parties for the dachshund play group. I can just see putting our aging cat population in custom fitted wet suits for their daily exercise.... Ann...See MoreWrist arthritis - advice?
Comments (9)I'll recommend a product that has put surgery off for both my husband and myself. About three years ago he was diagnosed, after months of agonizing pain, with bone-on-bone arthritis in the hip. His options were much like yours, though his research indicated that the shots and meds were NOT the way to go, and actually counter-productive. He actually got the point where he was checking the calender for a good time to be laid up for several weeks. As a last ditch effort, he got on-line and found a liquid joint care product that intrigued him and decided to try it. In two weeks, he was pain free and has been so to this day. His bad knees were also improved. You'd think that I would have started taking this stuff as a preventative, but I wasn't that smart. I was recently diagnosed with bone-on-bone arthritis of one knee and the other one looks bad, too. It took me a bit longer to feel the benefits, but though not pain free, I am about 75% improved. Our product of choice is Flexicose Liquid Joint Care. We have bought it by the case for two years, now. Don't be tempted into the inexpensive pills that can be purchased at Cost-Co, etc. Compare ingredients and the percentage of the ingredients. I am sure that there are many good products out there; we just happened to have discovered this one. It would be well worth the investment to try something like this. His chiropractor now stocks this stuff for his clients after learning about Robert's story. We are both relatively young (50s) and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with how well glucosamine works. My elderly aunt didn't have the response that we have and had to have surgery....See MoreShoulder Arthritis
Comments (34)About three years ago I had some problems with right shoulder when reaching in various directions, especially up, and back, as retrieving something in the back seat of the car. My G.P. suggested that I get Glucosamine Sulfate and take three capsules daily, to help with cartilage between the bones. I've been taking it for a time ... and came on here a while ago to say that, as I got an extended supply on sale a while ago, I am going to have to go on living for somewhat longer (also have quite a lot of PB and jam on hand, for even more incentive). I find that the shoulder has been developing some of those problems again, recently. Oh, well ... life do have its problems! ________________________ Can one get "diplomacy" ... ... without a prescription? Perhaps a touch of that on the part of some participants might help pour some oil on troubled waters, around here. While I fairly frequently find some of snidely's information somewhat unfeeling and rather abrasive ... I find that I've learned some things from them, as well. Dad used to say that one should let a lot of life's problems lacking direct consequence for one's self ... ... roll like water off of a duck's back. ole joyful...See MoreCat with arthritis? Comments (157)Just wanted to give an update. Monkey is still hanging in there. About 3 weeks ago, it wasn't looking great as his lump had grown very rapidly in the prior two weeks, so we tried another chemo. He did well for the last 3 weeks. Good energy, purring. But in the last day or so, I've noticed some of his prior behaviors coming back. The pacing/restlessness and the strange litter box behaviors. I'm a little nervous that the brain involvement is beginning again. We were scheduled for his next chemo next week, but I called and we moved it up to today. I'm hoping it will help this latest issue. I'm also going to see if we can start him on some pain meds to keep him comfortable. I'm a little worried this is the beginning of the end, since I saw this exact progression before his radiation to the point where we almost put him to sleep. I always knew that the treatments were only buying us some time but admittedly part of me was in denial after seeing him respond so well. But I'm at peace with the situation as I know I tried everything I could and sometimes these things just happen. If you have any spare good thoughts, I'd appreciate them for Monkey and my family that he will feel a little better, and if this is the last stage, that he won't be in too much pain and that I will know when it's time. It's so hard because I want to spend time with him but he doesn't really want attention or affection right now. :(...See More- 3 years ago
