Do you want a complete new look to the whole area? A new rug or two would provide good color cues for wall paint colors, perhaps in a blue gray to coordinate with your countertops. Adding some inspiration photos to your ideabook would give us a better idea of the look you are seeking.

Move in. Live in the space and see how it works. The house will tell you what it wants. In the meantime, start an ideabook for every room. By the time you're ready to start designing, you'll have a clear idea of your style. Then come back with photos of the house as it actually is with whatever furniture you already have, and we can help. Right now we don't have near enough information to make any suggestions. Don't be in a huge hurry to rush out and buy stuff. That's how expensive mistakes get made. Have a plan before you buy a single thing. Otherwise you'll be stuck with the too-large purple couch you fell in love with and won't be able to make it work.

Again thank you all for the suggestions. I am now leaning toward a warm white vs. a beige! Out of 12 samples (mostly beiges), I've narrowed it down to 4 (1 off-white, 3 beiges), now just trying to figure out which looks best with the kitchen backsplash. (I think they all look fine with the countertop, various woods, & living room, so it's coming down to the kitchen.) If anyone would like to share their opinions on the following choices, I'd appreciate any input: SW Creamy SW Canvas Tan BM Gentle Cream BM Dulce de Leche On the countertop Earlier in the living room, with other samples. The wood trim is beautiful and gives character and texture to your house. I'm with everyone else suggesting that you use paint and tweaks on your lighting, art work, and furnishings to lighten the spaces.
