Did you match finish of pendants/lights to your cabinet hardware?
Comments (24)BKO was a typo I made in a thread that seems to have caught on. I meant to say TBO (totally bathroom obsessed) but there was a two year old pulling on me, and I hadn't slept, and BKO came out instead. For some reason freaks who are TKO seem to understand that BKO (which makes no sense) means Bath LOL I have mixed finishes in all of my rooms (because I'm BKO AND TKO LOL) In my master bath I have antique gold knobs and gold tone lighting (antique stuff from the 1920's that I restored). The lighting also has browns involved in the design and the faucets are all ORB. The towel bars, hooks etc are all ORB as well. All of the finishes are what I would call "warm" in nature and the colors flow. Chrome would look terrible in that room. In the kitchen I have a SS countertop, fridge, DW and TC. My sinks are SS and the faucets (bar, main and pot filler) are all chrome. My lighting is a mix of antique pieces which have both aluminum (or antique pewter color) and a soft gold highlight on them with amber shades. My stove has both silver and gold on the handles (Lacanche) and my knobs are antique pewter. My other counters are granite with amber running through it prominently and the backsplash is amber as well as the glass in the cabinets. So in that room, I am mixing both gold and silver (warm and cool) tones. In the family bath I have a mix of chrome and brushed nickle. The faucets are chrome, as is the toilet handle and then the other pieces are brushed as are the knobs. The powder room has gold or brass fixtures and knobs. I hate having everything exactly the same except for the most modern of rooms (where that uniformity becomes important in taking individual elements out of the design). So the answer is....LOL you can probably do anything. :oP Does that help???...See MoreHelp! Do pendant lights/Dinningroom Table Chandelier
Comments (1)I am somewhat hesitant to say "no it won't work" because I've been there myself and made it work, but is it optimal? No, it would be better, because you have no other brass in the room, to go with a silvery finish. But, do you have nay other accent colors in your metals? My stove knobs are both silver and gold, and my lighting is also both siver and gold, so in my kitchen, I could go silver and gold easily. I'm wondering, is the fixture you love available in dual tone, with perhaps just small silver accents? That would be PERFECT! Then there's the custom lighting I did in my entry and library...all in shiny chrome (art deco style). Well then we made the mistake of redo'ing our horrible oak wall. I love the new wall, but the accent work on it is done in....you guessed it, gold :o( So, given the opportunity, I'd have liked the lighting to be gold as well, but because it's a library/living room, I'm able to bring the metal tones into my decorating through useof accent lamps and other decorative pieces. I don't know how well you can do that in either a kitchen or dining room. Have you looked around? Do you have anything with both tones? I'm totally with you on going with the amber shades. My autumn cherry cabinets look fabulous with the amber glass and my amber light globes. So I guess my one suggested way to make this work...is to somehow add that touch of silver into the lighting. Is that possible? This is my lighting...I have stainless appliances and pewter knobs, but I also do have the silver and gold knobs on my stove, and this lighting was also in both tones (Move in pic so forgive the mess):...See MorePendant lighting and chandelier choices
Comments (15)Started to post yesterday but wanted to think on it a bit… firstly, your granite is Stunning with a capital S and is a beautiful choice for Craftsman style! It looks almost like an oil painting, and the few vertical striations make it so interesting and move your eyes around the whole surface. Thank you! It's even more gorgeous in person. I just want to hug it every time I see it. Secondly, I like that you are also installing pendant lighting at the two windows as well as the island, and I do think those should be the same. I keep going back and forth about that. My thinking is the island lights are in the middle of the kitchen and might be better off as more prominent? My initial and immediate gut instinct was to say go with the first fixture, but I kept going back to look at the second from the Old California Lantern Co, which is why I hesitated in posting yesterday. I think I’m going to be the voice of dissent and go with the Old California fixture over your table. Now you know my dilemma! LOL Do you feel the Old California goes with the pendants? For 10 ft. ceilings, I’d choose the larger 12” pendants to accentuate that lovely ceiling height. Smaller pendants would seem undersized IMO and experience. I'm thinking of doing the larger pendants over the island and the 9" pendants over the two windows. Perhaps it’s just my own preference for vintage and uniqueness, and I think the Old California Lantern Co chandelier is more interesting… so: I find comments others make help me decide my own mind… here are just a few: Do you feel it’s important the fixture over your table match identically or closely with the pendant lighting? I can see that the Old California chandelier has a patina and the metal coloring is different than your pendant choices – again, does this affect your decision? The picture is just what's on their website. I can get a finish that is almost exactly the same with the same glass. Because your granite is clearly the stand-out, do you want a fixture that will hold its own with the countertop, or do you feel the Old California might compete while the Huntington might compliment the granite and your style of Craftsman? I'm confused. I like them both. I do love the Old California but don't want it to compete either. I have a lot going on in the kitchen so I'm thinking the Arroyo Craftsman one may sit back a bit more with everything else going on. In the dining room niche I have a beautiful buffet and I'm planning on an subtle wallpaper just for that wall. In the kitchen where the glass is in the backsplash, that will have a stained glass piece. Subtle, but still another element....See MoreWhich pendant light goes with this chandelier?
Comments (17)Make sure your island pendants don’t have too much glare for someone sitting at the island. The style of our lights (different from yours) is the same over the sink and the island. The light over the sink was fine, but the glare was horrible when sitting at the island - no problem when standing around. It never occurred to me this was a potential problem. Fortunately bulbs with covered bottoms - which I had never heard of - solved our issue....See Morelinachoudhry
