Can bungee cords transmit diseases like tomato leaf spot?

I use small bungee cords each year to help hold various plants up to their wire supports (cucumbers, squash, tomatoes). As I was gathering the cords up recently at the end of the growing season, it occurred to me that maybe they could harbor certain diseases. Any idea if I should somehow sterilize/clean them, so as not to transmit the diseases next year? Thanks!
