Dark paint advice

I need painting advice! Our office / guest room is painted dark harbor by BM and I love the color. I’m tempted to paint the baseboards and the ceiling the same color as the walls in the room (8 ft ceilings) and looking for opinions. I don’t want to make the room feel too small, but it is a rather large room (14x14) and their is white trim around 3 windows and on the ceiling I’d plan to keep (although curious on other opinions). Paint the ceiling one or two shades lighter on the Dark Harbor color strip before you decide about the baseboards.

Monocromatic is a hot trend right now, so you can go for it, but don't be shy. You'll find a quick review of this style and 7 others in this YT video from Lone Fox.

If you have real Brazilian cherry all through the level and the kitchen floor has maple look Pergo, I'd take out the Pergo. I'd go with a non-wood kitchen floor so that you don't have to worry about matching or clashing species. Paint the island and if you don't like it, you can replace it. The cheaper/simpler option is the one to try first...

I did not think Marvin or Anderson had an ebony or dark bronze interior fiberglass option? I also do not think they have had "continual problems" for ~20 years but it appears as if it was enough of a problem to employ at least one chain painting business in the matter of repairing failed window coatings for approximately 8 years. I guess what I am trying to say is that I don't know that I feel comfortable with a coated product where the product has a history of appreciable coating failure, or I would at least feel more comfortable if Marvin owned it and identified to the public exactly what happened and how it was remedied, rather than having us all rely on speculation because I have not seen any official information on the cause of the failures, but it certainly is contradictory to what the product brochures would have us believe!

just make sure you have really good layered lighting. Painting the room all moody Dark Harbor will make it hard to see spiders.

I would not paint the ceiling. I think it would feel heavy overhead and make the room feel closed in with those dark walls. I would paint all the trim, window, doors, baseboard in the Dark Harbor. I don't like that white trim, too busy and quaint with the dramatic walls. I agree, go monochromatic. I like the white chest and art, it brings some ceiling color down to living level and brightens it up. A white carpet with navy lines similar in pattern to that gray one will ground the space. The two carpets shown are wrong. I don't like the idea of the two-tone blue.

Wow I just saw the Navy blue ceiling in the example and I'm pleasantly surprised! Very nice!

I like this blue room with a gold ceiling. I think all blue would be oppressive.

I like it the color will hide the TV and you could paint the ceiling Shades lighter then the walls and you could paint the trim White and if it seems too dark you could paint the ceiling White

FYI Dark Harbor by Benjamin Moore is moody deep teal

In some lighting it can lean green and in some it can lean blue.

DD deco has a dilemma and teal paint in a bathroom it's called something 10 years she was living in the living room cuz there's many things that she remodeled in that dilemma it'll take a while to go through it

I would paint the ceiling, no problem. As others have said, pay close attention to lighting. I can't wait to see how it looks.

Do the baseboard and trim. Then decide on the ceiling. All blue is a dramatic statement and you can’t do it halfway by leaving the baseboards white.

Don't do the ceiling, but do the baseboards and trim in the same color, but a semi-gloss. Will give it a little depth.

IMO lighting is the big issue in a totally dark box but with the right lighting this can be quite dramatic. I think since you use it as an office you need to be okay with the dark box on a daily use.I think I need to see the whole space since the TV does not really make sense if you have a bed in there too along with a desk.

Is there a doorway or a natural stopping point to the room? If so I'd paint everything! We did our kids' rooms that way--trim and doors are a semi gloss and walls/ceilings are satin. It feels really nice and cozy, not too dark. Our dining room is dark green but it's more open to other rooms so I kept the trim white since there wasn't a natural place to stop the green color. If you paint the ceiling, also paint the crown so you don't have a white line separating walls from ceiling. I'd paint the closet door in there too! Do you have any windows in there?

I love the gold ceiling posted above, but going all teal can look amazing also. The lighting in this room is key

Thanks all and we do! 3 windows and a natural stopping point. I think I might start with all the baseboard trim and doors and then see about the ceiling - love all the advice though thank you!
