Help! Integrating her heavy dark oak into my light maple home!
Comments (4)Gee, she can move in with me and bring that stuff! LOL. When I started reading your thread I was imagining the worst. I think your Mom's stuff and yours looks great together! Mixing natural wood and painted pieces can look even better in most cases. The blue walls you have already go with the wood tone in her belongings. I don't see a clash in color or main style. Your personal styles are not that far apart. That curio cabinet looks fabulous on that wall. Maybe you can talk her into just putting in a few tchotke pieces at a time and rotating them with the seasons. Say you are worried about the grandkids(?) breaking them and they all should not be displayed at the same time or something. I understand how intrusive it can be to have someone move in and bring in their "stuff" but you have to make this work right? Maybe give it some time. Have a Margarita and a bubble bath. You have just been through a tiring 'moving in' ordeal and maybe tomorrow you will see it with a fresh perspective....See MoreFiberglass pool...wavering between dark blue and teal?
Comments (37)Yes! I have finally! You have got to talk to Atlantis Pools out of the Myrtle Beach area. They do installs up here as well. They carry two types of pools. I am going with the Barrier Reef brand and a Pacific I for the model in a dark color. I have done tons of research into the different fiberglass pools and I settled on 3 brands, Barrier Reef, Leisure and Trilogy based on their coating. I was able to get a quote from Atlantis on the Barrier Reef that I thought was extremely fair. I believe the price on that pool brand is a bit less for us in SC as they opened a manufacturing plant in Darlington so there is little to no shipping cost. We're getting the dark gel coat known as midnight shimmer with a salt system. They are adding those on right now for free. We're going to put a few jets in around the new bench seat that is in that model. Here is their website: http://www.atlantispoolsusa.com/ Tell Vonni I sent you!...See Morepaint color for a dark room?
Comments (28)I agree, various theories can be applied to the built environment in specific instances. Wallpaper, however, is subject to the same affects of inherent light and dimension as paint. Just because the colorway within the wallpaper pattern is pleasing and harmonious its own two-dimensional existence, doesn't guarantee it going to translate well into context covering the proportions, the walls of a three-dimensional room and its unique atmosphere. Concepts of color do get confusing. In order to grasp it better you have to be introduced to the parts you don't know - you can't understand thoughts and theories you don't even know exist. If we're never exposed to new and maybe *bigger* thoughts on color beyond our own comfort zones, then nothing's ever going to change. No one learns anything, no one moves forward. Suggesting paint color names is very helpful. As many of you know, I've done plenty of that around here too. When there are opportunities to explore further past paint color names and numbers, perhaps we should take 'em. And I don't mind pushing for that because this is a public forum, after all, and people are free to stop and read, respond, or just SCOB (scroll on by)....See MoreDurable Sinks - White vs. Dark, Undermount vs. Drop in
Comments (10)Hi Joseph....I was hoping you'd respond! :). I'm an avid fan of yours (blush). We prefer an undermount sink because it's easier to wipe counters off onto the sink and as well because the emphasis will be on the countertop (Cristallo quartzite with gold and copper veining). The only reason we are considering a top mount (which we have now) is because it's easier to replace the sink (hubby might be able to do himself), should it need to be replaced in the future. I'm a bit of an OCD when it comes to the house/kitchen looking pristine all the time (and I both cook and bake A LOT). We are having a difficult time deciding on what sink (Brand, etc.) and color to get. White is out of the question as it's too intrusive next to our stone. Hubby wants a copper (my original idea), but two factors for us to consider is: We have hard water, and heard that may spot the sink, and also PRICE. Paying 2-3K for a sink is out of the question (financially) for us. We are stomped! Our kitchen cabinets are honey maple, our island (in works right now) will be a creamy white color, and then we have the Cristallo quartzite....See MoreChristine Anne
