I decided to eliminate the bathtub when I remodeled since I hadn't used it EVER and only used the other tub (in hall bath) maybe once-twice in 20 years. So the shower is basically the same size/footprint as a bathtub. It feels so large and luxurious to me! The floor is the same hex tile as the rest of the bathroom and the walls are the same subway tile as the rest as well. Something I learned about on the bathroom forum and used and would definitely recommend is grout colorant. It is generally something you put on grout to restore color or cover dirt/dinginess. However it was suggested that if I wanted white grout I could just do white grout colorant immediately. I did and boy was that a great idea! I find that it has kept the grout looking good with minimal effort. To clean the shower floor I use some Comet then a splash of very dilute bleach water. Clean the subway tile with the bleach water as well. The shower glass is a breeze to maintain using a Mr. Clean magic eraser. Those things really are magic on glass--just dampen the eraser, wipe down and buff with a dry cloth. Presto, sparkling clean. As for a cabinet, that was the achilles heel of doing a pedestal sink in a teeny tiny bathroom. After I took those photos I found a perfectly sized little 3-drawer cabinet at Target. It is tucked between the toilet and exterior wall (not shown). Holds toiletries and miscellany and along with the medicine cabinet it is adequate. I've linked below to one that is similar from Target, although as noted mine has drawers instead of the glass door. But the dimensions are almost identical. The reality is I will never have a bathroom with storage space for towels, toilet paper, hair equipment et al. So I just store those things as close as possible--bedroom closet, linen closet in the hallway--and avoid drooling over larger bathrooms :). You can avoid the need for door-swing space by getting drawers on the outsides of the vanity. One possibility that you have not discussed here is to get a trough sink vanity with two faucets. Then you do not have to remodel for resale. If you get a vanity with drawers, you will have accessible towel storage in the bottom deep drawers and storage for smaller items in the upper drawers. Once you remove the wall, you may be able to get a 60" vanity, which will give you many more choices for your vanity. This one is 60" here at Houzz and is one of the few not sold with top and sink, so you may put in any that you choose. The bottom drawers on both sides are double-high, so this vanity has seven drawers!A wide trough sink like this one would technically make this a two-person vanity.And it is small enough that all of the plumbing would fit into the door cabinet part. Really, when a second person is there, often they just need to rinse a tooth brush and spit into the sink or wet a wash cloth while the other is shaving, and this kind of set-up works fine for that. My hubby and I managed that with a single faucet with a swivel mount on a tiny 30" Home Depot Euro-style "belly sink" for years. I don't know what your floor space is going to feel like after you take down the wall, but if you feel you have room to walk around it, they make a matching linen tower. It is 24" wide and 20" deep and 6 ft tall. A linen tower over across from the end of the vanity will keep the vanity area feeling spacious. It is another option instead of having the tall linen tower on the counter looming over you. With all of the drawers you can get in a 60" vanity, do you need the tower? I have a 60" vanity in our main bath now, and it is pretty useless, but that is because it has no drawers at all. As I suggested above, if you are short on floor space, you can have any cabinetry sunk into the wall. Simply have the builder do a header to carry the weight of the stud that needs to be removed, and frame around the opening with a bit of wood trim painted to match the cabinet. You can take the drawer front or door in to the paint shop for a match to be made, or have the trim painted the wall color.

And omg did not think about sanitary supplies!! Yeah, I get it. You don't think -- don't yet think -- of your little girls becoming women yet. Intellectually, you know they will, but that's not a thought that fits into your heart just yet. Says the mother of two girls, ages 20 and 23. Yes the closet is narrow! I’m nervous about giving up the bathroom space though. We do have a dresser also for the girls which I think will help. A dresser will give you more storage space, but the problem is that you won't have a walking aisle to reach the hanging clothing. Realistically, this is your space with a hanging rod and adult-sized clothing hanging -- note that you only have about the width of the hanger for walking space -- you'll have to walk sideways to get to the clothes on the far right: idea; try to put electrical outlets to charge toothbrushes if they will fit ...One large mirror over the vanity. Yes, put electrical outlets on both sides of the sink -- I personally wouldn't put them inside medicine cabinets; that'd mean the girls would have to leave the medicine cabinets open while using the hair dryer, etc. ... and that would take up space /block part of the mirror. Double-yes to a wide mirror. The girls will need more time for fixing their hair than they'll need using the sink. As far as under the cabinet, we decided not to over-customize the storage for blow dryer, etc (I've seen some pretty cool customized pull-outs, Yes, I agree. Don't lock yourself into one organization method. or the tub/shower combo, have the contractor install 4 corner shelves to hold all the shampoos, shaving stuff, etc. Corner shelves are less expensive to install than niches. If you want niches, that's fine too. They are just more expensive to install. If you do niches, put a wide one or a tall, divided one so that there is plenty of room for products. Very good advice. Whatever you choose -- corner shelves or niches -- put in more than you think they'll need. Make sure your storage is tall enough for the big pump-top shampoo bottles, and don't neglect a spot for soap. For me having towels in the bathroom itself means a lot of clothes left on the floor. I'll take the other side of that coin. I'd rather the kids dress /undress in the bathroom. Towels and clothes may end up on the bathroom floor, but I'd rather have them all on the floor in one place ... instead of strung out over the floors in the bathroom plus two bedrooms. What do you think about changing the pocket door to a regular door that swings into the wall opposite the toilet? To tell the truth, I'd lose that wall completely. You're talking about two sisters; they can share a plain bathroom. The wall makes the two rooms small, and at some point that pocket door will break (possibly in the closed position), and you'll have to get a handyman to come in and fix it, which might mean opening up the wall. Pocket doors are more finicky /easier to break than hinged doors, and children aren't great at being gentle with things. This bathroom is pretty small. I'd make it one room.

You have your light switches on the inside of a bathroom? Can't do that around here. Near water and all that, and someone probably figures it would be such fun for siblings to turn off the light on each other. talked about putting towel hooks around the corner by the toilet Hm, can do, depends. You don't want it too close, brushing up on the toilet each time you swish it past. Also you need something immediately on exiting the shower, so this can work, but not alone. In addition to towels around the window, you could have hooks on the back of the door - if you're fine with that? You'd also have to make sure you're clear of the toilet first.
