Help with Mantel Decor
Comments (28)If I was staying, I would definitely paint the brass black. I already looked into it and decided that the smell would take too long to leave the room. We are hoping to be on the market very, very soon. Then I thought, hey, I don't care much for the brass myself, but it didn't stop me from buying the house and living with it for several years. I have one other pic that would be similar in size to the pic on the right but the color is way off, so I'm afraid the tray stays. I do love looking at that tray. I found it in my basement and haven't used it in years! I'm hoping once I fill the vase with sunflowers that it gives the illusion of "round" to balance the round tray......See MoreHelp decorating a traditional looking mantel
Comments (6)I love your rug and chair!! Are you using overhead lighting? The room seems to have that harsh look. If so, turn that light off and use lamps only. As was mentioned the frame could be very important when choosing your art. Your rug looks traditional....See MorePlease Help Decorate This Mantel
Comments (10)Kudos to you for NOT putting the TV over the fireplace. In most spaces, seeing that always makes me hear NIN .... "bow down to the one you serve...." Mantel-wise, a bit of editing and addition might be in order. I'd keep the art, leaning if you like. Doesn't need to be centered. (first pic below isn't,for example) Edit the vases and the two smaller items. I might end up with two vases and that light (?) on one side only, depends. My choices would differ thru the year. Rotate your items, a mantel should not be a static vignette. (although I get that some like to do that) Allow your items space to breathe, let the deep wall color surround them, and try mixing material, heights, and shapes. Fresh flowers in a vase look great, so does greenery, but random dried stuff doesn't. Consider adding something tall, slim and metallic for more height if you wish. Like a candlestick,a sculpture. Or add a small painting in front of your art. Mantels, like console tables or shelves can look great minimal, maximal, and in between. But they are only part of the whole room. If relocating the TV is possible,I would. Could it fit on the other side of the fireplace? That would open up that TV corner for a low, open chair. Overall,it seems to me that you've created a personal and layered space. Edit it a bit and see if you enjoy it even more....See Morehelp with decorating mantel with mounted deer head
Comments (6)Since this is an office, I think that if the deer is staying in the room that the fireplace is the best place to put it as it grounds it. I have some concern if it is on the small wall that it will overwhelm the space and someone is going to walk right into it. You and your husband get it figured out whether it stays or goes to his man cave and then the next step is to address the mantle. I don't know if "dress" is the right word when there is a deer near-by-lol.......See Moreptreckel
