No-Poo revisited!
Comments (54)I went no poo this week. My hair is curly and I hate frizz so I always use conditioning shampoo, conditioner, AND a conditioning leave-in product. I used baking soda in the palm of my hand to wash, then I used a tablespoon of Bragg's apple cider vinegar in a half cup of water in a spray bottle. It was easy to direct it onto my hair without getting any in my eyes. I combed it through and the comb slid right through my shoulder length hair. Impressive! I was really surprised at how well it cleaned and conditioned. It's actually better conditioned than it was from all the products I was using. Yesterday I only water washed it after giving my scalp a good massage. Then I conditioned with the ACV. It was a little greasier than I'd like, so today I washed with the baking soda again. I know I'll need to taper off the baking soda, but is every other day okay for now?...See MorePeriomenopause.
Comments (2)Hi Cindy, I am now 56. I think this all hit me at about 51. Hit me hard. I was always a slim lady, very lucky, great metabolism. I have struggled with anxiety most of my life, but wow...when menopause hit...whoa. I seemed to get fat overnight, became extremely depressed. It was like instant. I suffered with crying or sleeping all day for a few months, forcing myself to go to work, it was awful. I had no interest in anything, not even my children which is unimaginable for me. Finally my husband talked me into going to see the doctor who put me on anti depressants which I was reluctant to take as I had heard things about them that seemed negative. At this point I felt I had no other options though so agreed. It took about a week to get used to them and I have to say I feel much better although not my "old self". I am much more "subdued" but at least not crying constantly anymore. I do not feel like I am the same person I used to be as I don't have the energy or drive I used to and have not the zest for things I used to like reading for instance. I also have not figured out how to lose the extra weight as I have so little "get up and go". I feel like maybe it's just hard to accept aging? However, I do manage and try to focus on all the positive things. I know what you mean about the self esteem, I hate pics of me too, so much, cause it does not look like me anymore I think. As for your hair, could be stress, or maybe have your thyroid checked? Mine has been bad for years and dry skin, hair loss, memory loss, sluggishness, weight gain are just some of the symptoms. At least it is treatable, a pill every day. :) On the bright side: We are not alone. We all have to face this strange change in our lives. Wish it was easier though eh? Hang on my dear you will be okay....See MoreNext step in hair journey: Dec update
Comments (53)I think your hair looks more dense as well! So happy for you. Wishing you continued success! I'm sorry that the burning is still occurring. I hope that you can find the secret sauce for that as well. DS uses a broken capsule vitamin a on his eczema and psoriasis. It isn't a cure but it certainly helps him with the itch etc. Maybe going forward you could take a dry hair picture now and compare it next time as well as your wet hair pictures. Perhaps you could just mark down exactly how you did your hair and repeat that next time. Too much work? Anyway it's a thought. Even though you had different lighting in the second one I could still discern that there was more hair. I don't know if you want to try to get the lighting closer or not but I don't think it's a big deal personally. I do see what people are saying, comparing apples to apples is easier....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/4/2024
Comments (41)Oakley, I hope you are seeing an endocrinologist and will enroll in a diabetes management program through your health insurance. It sounds like you need guidance, and that you could be shortchanging yourself by substituting the internet for sound, ongoing medical advice. Jojoco, you’re still well within the healthy BMI range and clearly don’t ”need” to lose weight, but I understand how good it can feel to have control over something like that in your life— especially when you’ve lost control of other things. I do weigh every day and as long as I stay within a five pound range I no longer worry about my weight. Just eating in a restaurant can cause a two lb increase on my scale from additional sodium alone. I have—almost— eliminated alcohol from my diet as was recommended for my autoimmune issues, and that caused a noticeable but not ongoing drop in weight 18 months ago. I track my food intake assiduously, more now to note how I feel and how much energy I have after eating certain foods. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to track and weigh as long as they don’t become ends unto themselves....See More- 4 years ago
