Wood bookshelves in family room -- to paint or not to paint?!
Comments (72)wow this does look really good. I would continue to work at this. I think the idea of lightening up the inside of the bookcase with the fabric wrapped foam would also help bridge everything. also maybe decorating the mantle with lighter objects to pull the lighter color over to that wall. maybe replacing the the stone around the fireplace to something lighter as well. overall it looks really beautiful; I'm just nit picking....See MoreWhat color should I paint bookshelves?
Comments (4)I think they are a bit too dark too. I would paint them white like your trim. However, I also think your tv is not hanging in the right spot. Looks a bit odd. Lower it down so that it is closer to the bottom, which will also make it level across the top. Cute dog. :-) I should add, that I dont even like white trim, so suggesting you paint white isnt quite normal for me....See MoreWould you rather - more windows or wall for bookshelves?
Comments (6)More windows. You’ll never regret having more natural light. Better for resale value. You can add more storage or bookshelves pretty much anywhere. You’re not going to redo your new construction home in 5 years to add more windows because you wish you had better light in that room....See MoreShould I paint the bookshelves to match the built-in cabinets?
Comments (7)Thanks @Lindsay K and @HU-187528210! The hutch has a brand new factory finish so I won't be painting that. The question is whether to leave it as a break from all the white or to blend the shelves on one or both sides in. Right now I'm tempted to leave it as is, wait for the counters/backplash/fireplace surround to go in as well as all our rugs and furniture, and only change out the paint if it looks like a terrible sore thumb....but open to other views....See Moredecoenthusiaste
