Backsplash to go w blue pearl granite and cherry cabinets
Can anyone share ideas on what you have used for a backsplash w blue pearl granite and cherry cabinets? we have stainless appliances and Australian Cypress wood floors We just bought yhe home and the current backsplash is very dark. We would like something lighter. We would also like to replace the cabinet hardware as it is 20 years old and needs to be replaced This is the listing photo, not our things on the counters or our furniture. We will have our live edge log table in the breakfast room. The bench with it and the pie safe are from an 1850’s dairy farm.

Comments (25)oh mayflowers forgot to say that I like the idea of adding cabinets to back of peninsula area but was also thinking of having two backless bar stools with black leather seats there as well. Will have to think about the wainscoating and now that I look closely the area could use an update and it is scuffed up. the more we look the more we see that needs help with this house Ugh thanks so much Here is the living room, my carpenter is fashioning a pine wood free floating mantle as we speak, it will have oil on it and natural tones. We have sofa facing the fireplace that's a thin cordoroy material in a light blue/green and plan to have an accent chair against the other wall (the staircase wall) with perhaps some type of server or china cabinet over there, dining area is too small for china cabinet but might be able to have a behind the sofa credenza (for more storage) we also plan to have an area rug in front of the sofa. I am looking for a gray one with texture if I can find one. what do you think of those ideas? Comments (7)I have to agree with lascatx, the combination with the oak cabinets may not work. When you get samples of the marble backsplash tiles, also get some other samples that call to you while you're at the tile store. Choosing tile is often a matter of bringing home different samples and seeing what works best in your space. Once you get the samples post again with pictures. Have fun. Comments (5)Call me classic but I like the green subway tiles best of those you chose. They are classic but stylish and add a little contrasting color. The waterfall tiles might look nice but also might be too contemporary. The clear tiles don't really add anything, at least for me anyway. Have you thought about looking for a travertine or glass tile with similar colors like your pendant lights? They look sort of burnt orange or rust colored in the pictures. That color may compliment your granite more too. I think what you get should depend upon what YOU want. If you do everything thinking about resale then you won't get what you really want. If you decide to sell your house, then you can think about tile someone else might want. I actually have a similar decision coming soon. I have cherry cabinets just a shade lighter than yours being installed now. I need to pick granite and backsplash next week so I know what you are going thru. Comments (24)Thank you for all of your advice. I talked to my husband and we are going to look into having the hardwood extended through out the house. There is a small toilet closet off the remodeled kitchen, but we will just leave the old tile alone in that room (obviously it has a door because it is a toilet room). That way that room does not have to be part of the renovation. The contractor told me that I did not have to pick the backsplash until after the cabinets and countertop are in; we will have a better idea of all the tones for the paint and backsplash and don't have to worry about a clashing floor tile. I had wanted tile for the spills, and the combination of wanting the right look and being concerned about how the tiles would affect my bad feet (and the fact that it seems like tile patterns become dated much more quickly than wood floors) all seemed to push me to hardwood. As to tile? The palest!!!! gray blue subway, a white....
Blue will be murder to find, and a white will be easy.
You just bought the house. Don't rush.
The ONLY way to select tile is to drag home samples, and stand them up. Go to a dedicated tile store. Not a big box : )
But I'd want that breakfast bar gone, and I'd want the blue pearl gone. Unless you dearly love blue? It's not the best complement to cherry, nor the more yellow tone of the flooring. Take your time before you jump in.

last yearNot sure how "modern" you want to go, but if you're not adverse to anything traditional, you might consider blue and white delft tiles. They are a classic choice with wood cabinets; a friend of mine has them paired with cherry cabinets and they are so pretty. Here is an example with stained wood (probably pine) and a dark counter top.
