Personally I think I mini backsplash over a pedestal sink would look strange. The only way I think it would work would be in the case of tile, where you did it around the room as a wainscotting kind of application, which then went a little higher than the sink to act as a backsplash. Just my opinion though. I say do what you like! You're the only one who needs to love it.

I'm not seeing a current picture witht he sink -- just the one with the paper down on the wood which I understand to be before use. That wall looks like it has a raw end of drywall, not a side that is finished (paper or whatever) or maybe even no drywall. It looks like they tried to smooth joint compound in there, either by itself over your studs and built up or over something less than a full side of finished drywall. Joint compound will turn to mud (that's what they call it when it's wet -- hence the verb to "mud" the walls) and dissolve away if it gets wet. Paint will only seal the surface, and if water gets behind it -- well, I dare say it is probably worse than damp sheetrock, which is worse than damp green board. You say they had to sheer away your window sill. Did that sill come below the window too? I don't think you've got clean drywall there. I think you've got a really poor job of mudding and an even worse job of sealing the joint. That's my guess.

Annalynn - I love tile like that ... and I think you have cherry cabinets so I'm sure the white looks beautiful. My mom is also looking for a backsplash and she likes the patterns like that if you don't mind sharing the manufacturer. She probably needs a cream color. I'm using a kitchen place that plans everything up front so the actual project is completed in 2.5-3 weeks. So, unfortunately I have to decide everything now. I've seen lots of different options online so I have an idea, but I know it all looks different in your house. I love glass so much more than ceramic (especially with the blue pearl), so I really want to go in that direction. Karen - I'll include the link with the colors again. I have samples at home of the slate gray (too dark), rain cloud (very pretty, but I think I want a little more color), soft blue (a little too pastel for me), soft gray (too close to white), and blue-gray. I really like the color of the blue-gray, but I'm worried it's a little on the dark side. I'm lucky in that my kitchen gets a ton of natural light so with the light cabinets, I feel like it's okay to go a little darker on the backsplash. My current kitchen has a drab beige backsplash and I'd prefer something a little more interesting. I'm at the point where it's the only thing hanging me up and they won't put me on the schedule until I pick something, so I guess it's decision time. Annalynn - is yours installed yet? Hello Bbabers, I've posted this elsewhere, but I don't mind repeating it. For very tight-set tiles, I like to use mason's string in long lengths laid into the horizontal joint as a spacer. The string is then carefully pulled out, like a rip chord, before the thinset has gotten hard. This method allows me to lay flat edges on the face of the tile, to assure that everything is "in plane" and to wash things up without disrupting the spacers. I've liked some of the very faint gray grouts (non-sanded of course) but there are too many variables to suggest a specific color now. Investigate which grout manufacturers are available to you and then get sample chits for the colors you are considering. I carry color boxes for five grout manufacturers and will often pull them all out when I am working with a client on color choices. I've got my preferred brands, but they each have unique color palettes so I show them all. More important than brand is the expiration date of the grout and whether the supplier adequately rotates their inventory. When you find the color you want, confirm with the supplier that the dates stamped on the package indicate a "fresh" grout. Cementitious products aren't generally reliable past 1 year after manufacture. Best of luck, Shaughnn
