cherry kitchen w/ modern glass backsplash?

Here's the quandry: can you go w/ a green glass subway tile in a traditional cherry kitchen w/ modern ss hardware? I say yes, hubby says no. He wants pictures of finished kitchens to prove that this will work.

Point 2: Focal point/interest area under hood. I thought I found a great solution being vertical glass 'waterfall tile' to coordinate with the green glass subway tile. I liked the salesmen's idea of it going from cooktop to ceiling at the hood area. Again: will need comp. photos to sell this to the husband!

An alternative my husband & I agreed on was to use perhaps cut green marble as our field tile & frame out some crackled glass abby shaped tiles by Trikeenan. Now I'm worried that dirt may build up in them if they are over the stove (as the other salespeople told me, who don't sell trikeenan). This option is more traditional, more expensive & I think less daring.

Should we just do a boring tumbled marble?! ugh. DS also worries about resale. I say "go w/ what we like!" We may leave within 2 years or so... who knows though!

Oh, also, I thought the glass subway would be 'brighter' in our dark/not getting much natural light kitchen.

I remember your kitchen and home from the planning stages -- it is turning out so great. I love the idea of the white or green backpainted glass or the Caesarstone. I've also seen some large format glass planks from Bellavita that could look good when done horizontally, in stacks, to pick up the lines in your beautiful architecture. Thank you all for your thoughts and support. The community here helped me pick my granite--I had one really long post with photos and had people give their opinions. Laura, I got it at a company called Cosmos; they are in several cities. Gemini, I love ABBS! Shorter to write, that's for sure. Mizinformation--I am rooting for your success! Our shelves weren't adjustable and given the number of other cabinets we needed, we opted to completely start over. Did you have those wonderful soffits to remove? We all had a turn with the Sawzall at least once. We did save a number of 2x4s from the soffits, and I have pix of my mother-in-law pulling nails out of them. B/S: I am leaning toward a light blue for the backsplash to pick up the color in the granite. I have seen some glass ones I like (kinda spendy for my budget) but now I'm stuck on what I'm doing with my shower. (I'd want all the tile done at the same time.)

didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )

Hi Katie, Demo starts tomorrow, so no pics on progress yet, but I'll post when I have some. I'm working a little bit with a KD, and doing the rest myself with cabinetmaker. KD suggested open shelving like in the inspiration pic (but in stainless, specifically). I think it would stress me out though, lol! Having all of my bottles and stuff right out there (the range area is the focal point to basically my whole downstairs living area). My pantry rarely looks fabulous, and I'd be moving the pantry out into the open. So, I think we'll be making the vertical column things on either side of the mantel style range area into pull-out shelves for sheet pans, spices, small bottles, etc. I considered the open shelving with a pretty display of white bowls and dishes, but then I'd lose the storage space for the stuff I really need at my fingertips. Call me classic but I like the green subway tiles best of those you chose. They are classic but stylish and add a little contrasting color.

The waterfall tiles might look nice but also might be too contemporary. The clear tiles don't really add anything, at least for me anyway.

Have you thought about looking for a travertine or glass tile with similar colors like your pendant lights? They look sort of burnt orange or rust colored in the pictures. That color may compliment your granite more too.

I think what you get should depend upon what YOU want. If you do everything thinking about resale then you won't get what you really want. If you decide to sell your house, then you can think about tile someone else might want.

I actually have a similar decision coming soon. I have cherry cabinets just a shade lighter than yours being installed now. I need to pick granite and backsplash next week so I know what you are going thru.

I like the tiles and your kitchen, but I'm not sure this is going to work together. Like the PP, I like the green subways best.

Alternatively, if you can take a look at rufinorox's kitchen, you may want to go with more traditional subway tile with either your green subways or maybe some green glass mosaics as an inset border.
