Hi: We are redoing our kitchen with white perimeter cabinetry, and will have white crown moldings etc., in kitchen and nook. We have an adjacent family room that will have stained wood trim windows/crown molding/built-in shelves etc. We will go with either cherry or walnut for the stained woods. The kitchen island will be stained wood. Floors are red oak which will be stained dark to match the island. My struggle is that between our eating nook and the family room will be a series of 3 millwork arches. (Arch 1 opens to a doorway to another room, arch 2 is the walkway to the family room, and arch 3 has a row of counter-height cabinets forming a divider between the nook and the family room.) I cannot decide whether to make the arches stained wood, or painted white... The Nook/Kitchen area has a standard-height ceiling, so if I make the arches white painted, I can make the arch openings higher, because the top trim of the archways can be the ceiling crown. If the arches are stained wood, I need to make them shorter, so there is a space between the white crown molding in the nook and the arches. (I do not like the look of having the arches stained with the ceiling crown being white, if the ceiling crown forms the top trim piece of (touches) the arches.) The adjoining family room has a taller ceiling, so its crown molding will be well above the top trim of the arches when viewed from that side. I like the idea of having the arches higher, but wonder how white arches will look with the stained cabinetry and trim in the family room. Does anyone have a mix of white kitchen/nook trim with stained trim in an adjoining room? I am having trouble visualizing. Thanks for any pictures or advice!

Thanks. Yes, Blonde is used in the highest part of the trey, the lower part is Ivoire. I thought they'd be darker than they are, so I need to go further down the strip to get a GOLD on the ceiling. The trim color is a creamy white: SW Dover White. My other "color" in the house is a pumpkin-y color called Basque Brown (old Duron color). None of my pics of it show it well, so I didn't post it. I'll try again under different lighting conditions. These colors: eggplant, earthy green, and "pumpkin" were all accent colors in my last house with was entirely a soft gray. This time we decided to use the Blonde as the over-all color and then paint individual rooms too (we were too afraid of multi-colors in the last house...then I found this forum). I'd like the eggplant to be a bit darker, too, but we were also afraid the Walnut wouldn't show up as well when we were first picking colors. There's someone on the forum who painted a room (or wall; I think in the basement) in the next color down from Soulmate and posted a pic of it.

Jerusalem gold limestone? I had it in my powder room in the other house, actually had the slab first and then picked out the vanity. I loved it and plan to do it in this new house as well.

This is just my closet, but the fixtures(?) are cherry...I used BM Louisburg Green. My dining room is red and the rest of my downstairs was a sage green...both rooms had a gold ceiling. I picked up a card at SW last week that was a pretty strong gold/butterscotch that had complimentary colors listed on the back. The other two colors were antique dk. red and a rich chocolate brown...so I think if your dining furniture is light enough either an olive or brown could work. You're on the right track, at least in IMHO ;)
