Taking the knife to a 55 year old jade - Help on finishing cuts?
Comments (8)I agree for separate potting, over all aesthetics would be less confusing on the eye. If not separate it would be one rather large pot for a complete presentation but would be perhaps to heavy. You've done a nice job for a hard prune. Personally, I'd of use two thicker wires to hold that one part up and maybe would also of wired some of it's area to develop a welcoming effect for later growth. I'm just not a big fan of the "lollipop" effect for these trees. Best example is how I'm really liking the one in front right view already. This side ( front) would be viewed as it looks like it is getting ready to bend down to give a warm hug. Seeing though the tree is also a preference and might bee a good idea for you. If you have a "plan" then I'm thinking you can easily tell and know when and what to remove as it grows to get the effect you want. If you dont already know "Pruning basics" for a Jade then feel free to ask. When you do water, water first then wait two or three days to prune OR wire, DO avoid doing all three things in the same time frame....See Moreechinaceas new versus old varieties
Comments (19)1.) Pink Double Delight - Always blooms more and longer than the others. It's superior to all of them I've grown. It can grow in full sun or part sun. 2.) Razzmatazz - This one has been in a wet location for 4 years and always comes back and blooms all summer. 3.) Pallida - It always returns. I do have to spray it with Daconcil each May, but that's a small price to pay for such a beautiful plant. Pretty blooms on very long stems! 4.) Paradoxa - It is a dependable yellow coneflower. It returns each year and looks better each year. It's slow to establish, but once it does...look out. You will have big yellow blooms with such nice, long stems! 5.) After Midnight - As long as it's grown in a location with afternoon shade, this plant will thrive. It doesn't have the distorted petals of other Big Sky Series plants. 6.) Tiki Torch - Big Disappointment so far! The color is nice and doesn't fade, but the plant is not a good perennial. Only 25% of my plants returned after winter. They were all in a bed with excellent drainage. All the other plants returned too! I'm experimenting with it in a shadier location. I will post my results next year! 7.) Sundown - A nightmare to grow! Some years the petals are distorted. It does over-winter here, but what a disappointment. The blooms fade very rapidly to a pastel ugly color. 8.) Twilight - This plant wouldn't grow. It turned solid black and died and never returned. I didn't waste anymore money on it. 9.) Sunrise - A complete disaster! Distorted petals...Blooms fade too quickly! Plant returns smaller than the year before. HATE IT! 10.) Harvest Moon - Another disaster. Nice blooms when they first open, but they fade to an ugly pastel color too. Distorted petals. Poor winter-hardiness. Plants that do return are smaller than the year before. 11.) Merlot - Nice plant. Seems to be a winner. 12.) Coconut Lime - I love this one, but it does return smaller than the previous year. I'm waiting for it to bloom and will post then. 13.) Mac 'N Cheese - A very weak plant. If I were you, I wouldn't purchase this one yet. Wait until next year. This one is not going to impress anyone. 14.) Tomato Soup - A better grower than Mac 'N Cheese, but I think you should wait on this one too. 15.) Pink Poodle - The pictures of this one are staged. This plant has poor branching habit. You'll be lucky if you get one bloom the first year....See MoreHelp choosing rug for 130 year old antique round table
Comments (59)Musclejunkie, the rugs you like so much look wonderful. The glimpses of your home in these two rooms show how pretty its features are.I especially like how the darker rug looks in the office, and Jinx makes such a good point that it is nice to foster cohesion in color/ tone between the two rooms, if possible. Ida ( CONGRATULATIONS on your property acquisition!) , the rooms you showed are gorgeous, not the least of which is your own living room with its stunning rug! However, in each example there is a degree of contrast between the furniture and the carpet. I did want to say that, imo, there is a case to be made for the beautiful carved legs of the dining table getting a bit lost against the very dark rug. Perhaps, that is not so much the case IRL and as I said, it does nevertheless look beautiful. I no longer have the info. on these rugs, but I just wanted to show as an example of very “rich” rugs that would offer more contrast ( even the darker red one). Also, if it were my rooms I would not want to use two round rugs adjacent to each other. I mean it is ok, but I feel it takes away a little bit from the specialness of the round shape when it is more redundant as in two side by side. Of course, that is just a very personal line of thought/ preference. —- Either way, your rooms are going to look beautiful....See MoreWearing braces as an "older person" ...
Comments (36)Yes, runninginplace and Chispa! I didn't realize I'd have a bunch of little protrusions on my teeth when all this started. No one warned me about that either. Anyhoo, I've gotten used to them now (except when I look in the mirror sometimes). I'll be glad to be done with a couple of those. One other thing, Ida. I'm older and my orthodontist was concerned about my lower teeth being susceptible to too much movement due to bone loss. Bottom line is it turned out ok, but I had to go to a periodontist for evaluation to make sure I could even wear an appliance to have my lower teeth straightened again. They weren't too bad except for right in the very front so I could have lived with just straightening the uppers. However it delayed the start of my treatment just waiting around for appointments with the periodontist and then back with the orthodontist. Ugh! I was ready to get going, although I do appreciate the caution. And then the first several weeks or more is mostly just slight movement to make spaces to actually move the crooked teeth back into alignment. I guess you figured out all this, but it does seem very slow. And I too have no idea what to do with all those old trays, although the orthodontist says to keep at least a couple of old trays back in case he you lose a current set of trays. You usually have to go back, not forward. I suspect this happens more with teenagers but you never know. I recommend getting at least one extra case to carry around in your handbag....See Morepetalique
