Help choosing dining table size and shape, need to finalize this week
Comments (21)Ok I'm convinced to a 60" round, hopefully with drop in leafs for extra seating. I spoke with the table maker today and he's on vaca until Saturday so we'll touch base early next week and finalize plan/start the actual build. After all the recommendations I'm thinking too that I'll only purchase 6 of the chairs and use my existing wooden ones for extras. We aren't big entertainers and would mostly have just another couple to host but this will provide a slightly more cost effective solution for when we do entertain more. @maggieq & @cyn427 @jjam - thanks for the chair info! Yikes about the experience with the Hudson chairs, esp for how pricey they are! I've heard such mixed reviews about the overall quality of RH, either wonderful or awful, but I've been coveting the Martine for so long that I'm cautiously willing to give them a try... And hope at worst I could have them brought to a re-upholsterer for future modification over buying fresh set at that time. Thanks again everyone, this has been Hugely helpful! :-)...See MoreI need help choosing a dining table
Comments (17)Do you like those tables made out of formica or whatever type of molded plastic they use? There are both round and rectangular versions. Also tables with formica tops and metal bottoms. My aunt had a black and white kitchen with red accents, very modern, and she had both types of tables, one small end table made out of molded plastic, and then a formica/metal one for the eating area with rattan and metal chairs. Not the low end stuff, it was high end. Google "molded plastic dining room tables" and you will find some good "image" examples. The formica versions are mostly not-loved antiques, although my friend picked up a high end faux wood table and black vinyl upholstered chairs dining set on the curb in a formerly stylish Pittsburgh neighborhood. They've had it now for almost 20 years in a variety of homes, has held up well in style and material. It's kinda danish modern style....See MoreHelp choosing table color
Comments (15)Hi again! Thank you all so much for weighing in - truly appreciate it! Interior home design is just so hard for me. It is sounding to me like I am going to have to get a cream table. I was hoping to make this one work since I was hoping it would pull in a bit of the gray in the granite. But the color of the table is more gray than it appeared online and inherently I see what you are saying. I love the woven chairs posted and the Serena and Lily bistro chairs, but was leaning towards smaller x-back chairs so that I could maximize space around the table as we are a family of 5. The table is 58" and with a smaller profile chair I can easily fit six. But maybe there are some smaller profile woven ones that I should investigate. I really wish that furniture buying (and honestly furniture returning) was much easier as I bought the current table from Birch Lane....meaning I am just going to have to sell it on Craigslist for a loss. Argh!...See MoreDo you like Kilim rugs? I do. Will you help me choose?
Comments (10)The room ...... just your basic, small suburban spare bedroom. We’re currently renting after selling last house, or I’d remove carpet. The carpet is clean and in new condition; the room was hardly used before we moved in. Shadows in these pics make it look skanky, I know. ~~~~~~ Antique saddle. My dad won the saddle blanket in ‘87 (cutting horse competition). My late husband’s grandfather made this. I cherish it. Some much-loved stuff in there, including antique cowbells (from rodeo/bull riding) and my prized Breyer horse model, Man O’ War, circa ‘70s, Jamaican carved wood vases my husband collected with his late wife, beach rocks from Cape Cod visit when my DD was little, old pottery, etc. Oh! I forgot about the big grapevine balls, forgot to put them up after Christmas. IGNORE THE BALLS — I know it’s very cluttered, but it is what it is! Big downsize from last house. Let’s call it a layered look. :D That old printer the size of a small car will be out of here soon. The Long Island map, that my husband assures me everyone growing up on LI would remember seeing (this was in his house when he was a kid). Seeing them again this year!! Vintage hand tooled purse. Want the throw rug here. An accent piece to break up the dumb carpet. My now husband’s grandmother did this lovely pencil drawing (right of guitar) in 1947 ... Very old family belt buckles (I have more, need to get them out):...See Moremusclejunkie
